I admittedly had grave reservations when Smarty got mod. Though he was a frequent contributor previous to then, he was also something of a loose cannon, just a likely to be embroiled in the crap (or even causing a bit of it) as not.
Fortunately he seems to be (again, IMHO) growing into the position.
Kudos
As to Dingus being old and fat, arent most of us? LOL
What would you like to see changed?
Post on this thread.

Judging by all the posts of the past few days, I thought it was a free for all!
comfortable with the "freedom of speach" exhibited here....or would you prefer a more heavy handed moderation style?
d15......and smarty1101 (but he's busy right now so I'm posting)
You've done well by containing Victoria to just Phoenix and San Diego LOL!
Good job, gents.
sorry...nothing more to say
d15
It si sure to be something very very very special.....
Ohhhh Nikki wanna make a trip to Phx.....
I like it. Enough free speach to keep things interesting, but keeping the really harsh stuff off the boards. Keep up the good work!
..and I just discovered I was moderated again, after I told this board I was going on vacation.
Now, you tell me who is being the asshole here.
Bonne chance.
OK, you asked for it.
- The occasional "hey, we're announcing policy after the fact" puzzles me sometimes when it shows up. More community input would be nice. Since we generally mod ourselves, give us more chances to respond to moderator actions, instead of announcing things after the fact.
- Your ability to get personal digs in on this board depends on how good a pal you are with the resident Vegas mod- in the words of Orwell, All Posters Are Equal, But Some Posters Are More Equal Than Others. The standards on comment moderation aren't awfully consistent.
- Some people with a history of this kind of stuff should simply be warned, and if they can't quit, always be moderated. I'm finding the personal attacks tiresome, especially when it's by people who can't let grudges go- if you don't LIKE certain people online, don't interact with them. I suppose flamewars are more entertaining than the 325th request this week for where you can find Greek in Vegas, though.
- All my grumbling aside, I'm still here, so it's not that awful... of course, I haven't gotten the unfair treatment others have in spades.
for the insane.
Seriously someone needs to shut this broad up.

I have 15 years experience in moderating, opping and referrering message boards, BBSes, USENET newsgroups and women's pro roller skating and learned the hard way that you can't moderate with a heavy hand.
Users will will always look at the rules to be broken because they see this world as a fantasy and the consequences are thus meaningless. Just like many clients will push the boundaries in a session, users will push the boundaries here.
OTOH, most people love to led by a leader they can admire and respect. But an iron fist is not leading, it is treating users as children. By guiding and setting an example users will unconsciously emulate what a leader does they either want to be like the leader or want to be accepted as part of the group.
Drama for drama sake is not a good idea and I have removed or not had posts see the light of day for just that reason. Sometimes drama can be entertaining and informative while still be flaming, and I leave them up.
Caveat1: this is generally true. and of course there will always be a curmudgeon who will want to be the outcast.
Caveat2: I have of course violated my own set of guidance and posted trolls and slime on others. Hey, I never claimed to be perfect. ![]()

a heavy hand.....I don't think so....the LV community does a good job of shouting down the fools who push the envelope.......I tend to agree with your sensibilites.....but was looking for specifc feedback like....
SMARTY plays favoriates with the girls who swallow.......or Dingus is old and FAT and nobody likes him....or want's to see him post....
Thanks for your $.02 but I was looking for more specifics to our personal styles....
Be well TMT

Don't read anything into my posts other than is what is there. I never mentioned you or smarty or implied anything about you two.
But if that is what you want.
You are sort of invisisble. so it's difficult to judge your work.
Smarty is does excellent guidance and doesn't play favorites as far as I can tell.
I'd have to look at the queue to be able to see what is really going on.
I will add this. and note this specifically does not apply to you or smarty. But some mods forget what we do is illegal and act like they do in the civvie world, not thinking their actions have consequences. Safety and security is always paramount.

I have decided to not post here for the foreseeable future, and will go back to that after this little missive.
It's not like we haven't had this conversation before, but if it isn't patently obvious by now that what one reaps what one sows, it should be patent. D15, I really thought you were much more intelligent than this.
Let me put it this way, if ownership cared about this particular board like a) they claim they do, or b) half as much as they enjoy counting their money, you'd never have to ask. They obviously don't, and this is why TER is slowly, but surely, losing traffic here.
I'll never apologize for not suffering fools gladly. I don't feel like I have to. The foolishness around here has gotten endemic, if you ask me.
god speed in your travels.....I never did undersand the personal anger you held towards some of the members of ter.....may you find peace in your time away from the board....or at least from posting......life's too short to be that angry.
d15
Let's just say I had a legitimate beef, or maybe several, and management failed to resolve it. Moreover, and I believe I have the CV to make such a judgment, the citizens of this particular community deserve a lot better than what they've had to deal with.
I moderate on another board, elsewhere, where you need an invite, and I never have a problem. Go figure. And I said I'm not going to post anytime soon and I got remoderated for that? And you're asking about MY anger? Amazing.
You have never added anything to the board with your posts and continually bitch and moan---don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!!!

hey hon..6`` just consider yourself lucky, you are`t a member of this NERD HERD...LOL>>
Don't have a problem with moderating but my noncontroversial posts are not ever seeing the light of day. Also waiting for the unmoderated status promised on St Pats post.
.. distraction intended to change the recent subject, it's a pretty impressive ruse. Like having a "How am I doing? Call 1-800-GIJOE" sign on the back of a Armored Personnel Carrier in downtown Baghdad.
Being in your shoes; having nothing more than an on/off switch, is bound to be a choice between two bad options more often than not. But, recent threads considered, would you have allowed much, or all, of what remains to read if you didn't make your decision based on who was posting, not what was posted? A difficult choice - Many regular posters chose to become silent; either torn between friendships, or too disturbed and hoping new subjects would push it to page 2 asap. Others took action and spoke up. There is an appearance that Moderation took the first option and stood back, for whatever reasons.
There's no such thing as good moderation. No one wants to be controlled, but everyone wants someone else controlled: What You Gonna Do? You accepted the job - your status by any individual as a hero or a crumb will depend on your choices that week. I wouldn't worry about it, though. Everyone seems to keep coming back readily enough.
I think you guys are doing a great job and I prefer the free speech moderating style to heavy-handed. We are adults after all and it allows us to see the full scope of everyone’s personality and provides just enough rope for some people to hang themselves with.
Although I do understand that the use of aliases is a feature that will not be eradicated anytime soon, it would be amusing to see the real handle with an "alias removed by mod" tag in the subject line when used for the purpose of being mean or to hijack a thread with nonsensical babble to divert attention from the topic at hand e.g., Al from beyond and Lawrence Kohlberg: http://www.theeroticreview.com/discussion_boards/viewmsg.asp?MessageID=47937&boardID=3&page=1
All things considered, I have no complaints, but I would like to see Number 6 treated less harshly.

I change your alias to your user name....no sense hiding behind that one.
Earlier I closed the window on a response about how we mostly didn't see the end result of your moderating style, about how I am pretty nonconfrontational and so had no direct experience to draw from, etc. All that remains true.
But...
Whether one is in favor of alias use or not, if they are to be available their use must be honored in all but the most extreme situations. To have them stripped away without warning at the whim of the mod seems uncalled for and an abuse of power.
Well I have to agree with both parties on this.
Honestly I agree with Nikki why should there be alias's? I mean the nick you come in here with is already an alias, no good reason to be able to have multiple ones other than to cause trouble, or entertainment to yourself at others expense.
However, if the option to use them exists, then they can not be exposed by the mods unless the person is banned for life. Otherwise it is a breach of trust on the level of exposing all the community to those that would take it down.
Just my thoughts,
Sir
Didn't you read his post? That's about as good as it gets. He's not a hobbyist, despises escorts and gets off on making fun of us.
No, his post had been edited out before I saw it, but it really isn't about his particualr post or whether alias' shoud be used or not. Rather if they are to be available their use should be respected, if not they should be done away with altogether.
IMHO the mod made a bad call here.
i did a 3000 day search of his posts.....Niki is right...all negative, attacking...looks like someone doesn't like women...i don't flip alias' without some thought...
The posts that "Larry" and I put on the board were to provide thoughts to all parties involved. One can become so angry, that irrational, impulsive comments seem to flow with malice of forethought. We were simply trying to put things into perspective. If the post were taken literally, or perceived as a means of "hijacking" or diversion; that was not the intention. You Nikki,of all people, should recognize that Albert Schweitzer and Lawrence Kohlberg were two of the finest social thinkers of the 20th century. Sometimes looking for meaning and inference allows for that "pause when agitated" necessary to have calmer minds prevail.
Sorry if I offended you, that was certainly not my intention. Still in alias
I'm really not a true part of the Vegas scene, (I live near Reno), I enjoy the Vegas board, because Reno and Vegas are somewhat similar in many ways. I also use the board to 'get to know' the regular posters, sort of a 'feel like a family' type of thing. This may be just a coincidence, but it seems as though the mods are concerned about the 'Nico Incident', and the flaming associated with it. Emotionally charged things like this tend to reveal true depths of personalities, and I must say I've gained more respect for nearly everyone involved. Had more of this been moderated out, I would not have had as much info to go on, and thus would have formed slanted opinions. I'd say leave it about the way it is, your style seems to fit this board.
eight other boards and was looking for feedback....that being said, I tend to let trainwreck threads play themself out.
d15
I really do appriciate your letting controversial threads play themselves out, there's alot to be learned from them!
You posted this before you read the threads about Miss Nico?
Ummm...those threads were started a couple days ago....
You mean you didn't even look at any of the posts on this board in at least two days?
So you don't read the board you moderate but you're asking if we think you do it well?
Yep...sure you're doing great. *smirk*
(please note this post was written whilst laughing...ahhh sweet irony)
a real life, I manage my time as I can...I use the weekend to catch up on the general flow of the board.....so it is correct, there were NO posts about NICO in the moderated que....Smarty beats me to most of the posts as he LIVES on the board and I do not....
Sorry to dissapiont but I would be willing to bet that the only mods who read every post are unemployed or retired or have no life....
Glad I made you laugh
>
so there can be some room for posts with escort information. this place is worthless lately. entire pages devoted to drama.
and you are doing great!

Unlike you, I had only some slight reservations about Smarty becoming moderator of this board. As you know, PF, I haven't always agreed with everything Smarty has said on this board, but I think he understands the purposes of it as well as anyone, and if those purposes are served, he is happy, which makes him a very good, if not perfect, choice for moderator.
So what are the purposes? In my opinion, there are three main ones: In no particular order, they are to (1) be informative, to {2} keep our community safe from predators of any kind, and to (3) provide some entertainment, and even a few laughs now and then. One reservation I had about Smarty becoming moderator was that I was afraid he wouldn't post as much as he did before, because his posts were always either entertaining, informative, or intended to keep us all safe, and sometimes all three at once! It is true that his posting frequency has lessened, but his moderating style reflects his attitude about the purposes of the board, so I guess I can live with a few fewer posts from him. In fact, I could have lived with even one FEWER post from him, and I'm sure you know which one I mean! Lol! I couldn't have agreed more with Quality Seeker! LMAO!
So, to answer your original question, Dingus, I think you and Smarty are doing a fine job! Please keep it up (pun intended)!
T.L.

Being new to this board, as well as, never being part of a moderated board previously, I initially did not like the idea of having a moderator. As I have gotten more accustomed to it, I am comfortable with the style the moderators take.
