I will be visiting LV for the first time in July, and I have a question about the Vegas scene.  What is all this business about securtity?  I'm doing my homework & I see a lot of "met the lady downstairs at the bar & we went up to my room", "passed security", "security was no problem", "had to meet her in the casino and went to my room from there", etc.  

This sounds completely unique to Las Vegas.  Is it a non-guest at hotel cannot get upstairs thing?  Do they check you on a guest register?  Check your key?  Are they profiling everybody?  

Just wondering what I should be prepared for.  (I wouldn't want to mess it up).  

Most of the higher-end casinos make you flash a current (they change the designs on them periodically) room key to gain access to the elevators.

Some of them only have security in the evening.

Its Vegas, Baby.  The hotels have to deal with a lot of very strange people and they have an obligation to provide a safe environment in the hotel towers.  Unfettered access to the floors might result in people trolling the halls for all the wrong reasons.  

Tasha's post is a great starting place.  Also, never forget that almost anything you do anywhere in a hotel/casino (outside your room or a restroom) is probably on tape someplace. Nobody really cares much about you picking up a girl at the bar and taking her to your room, but if things go bad, don't try to deny that you did pick her up, it won't fly.

Been in all the hotels many times over. Never had anything remotely close to a problem.

So I am sitting at the bar in the Palazzo drinking a couple beers and I approach a lady sitting at the bar. Not 3 minutes later I have 3 security guards standing around me asking me and her 75 questions. They want to see my room key, my drivers license, how long I am checked in at the hotel etc.....

Long story short I was made to fell very uncomfortable and I had no shot with the lady who promptly exited when the inquisition started.

Does this happen often and if yes, how the heck do you avoid it? Obviously don't stay at the Venetian/Palazzo is a start. Don't talk to women at the bar is the second but hell what fun is it to go to Vegas then.

First of all, I think thats pretty unusual behavior, I'm thinking there is more to the story, either she was being watched or ...?  The question becomes why would security be watching her in particular?  You might have just avoided a 'trick roll' situation if she was on their watch list.  

One thing to remember about Vegas hotels/casinos and their security, in point of fact the security has a bit more authority than the cops do as they represent the owners of the property.  They may use the Nevada Revised Statute on Tresspass to order you or anyone off the property for any or NO reason.  Registered guest?  Yep, you can have 30 minutes to pack and clear out.  Three AM?  Doesn't matter.  I've seen it done.  

Having said all that, MOST Vegas properties have a pretty laid back attitude about things, after all, its VEGAS!  I actually don't go down to 'the Strip' that much, but when I do I see obvious 'working girls' in all the casinos.  Security is better at spotting them than I am and if they really cared, they would be escorted off the property. But if anyone gets on security's radar, they can make life unpleasant for you.
