A week or two ago there was a post about the full moon. Since this board seems to show an interest in celestial activity I am offering the following:

Report on Celestial Events for the 1st quarter of 2012

In the west there is a very bright star low on the horizon directly after sunset; it is not a star, it is the planet Venus, the Roman Goddess of Love and Beauty. You can tell it's a planet because stars twinkle with their own light, while planets shine steady, reflecting light from our sun. High in the southern sky another planet pierces through the night, it is Jupiter, the King of Sky and Thunder.  These are the first objects that appear after sunset. For the next 8 weeks these bodies will inch closer to each other, moving through the constellations Pisces and Aries, until the evenings of March 12 - 14, when they will be close enough to reach out and cover with your hand.  It is a celestial event called a conjunction; it will be quite a sight.

In between these two bright planets are two faint planets, Neptune and Uranus.  These planets are not visible with the naked eye, and they are even a challenge in a moderate sized telescope, but they are up there none the less.  On January 13th Venus conjoined with Nepture, and on February 9th she will do it again with Uranus. Then on April 2nd, two weeks after her evenings with Jupiter, Venus will pass through the star cluster called the Pleiades, it is a small group of stars in the constellation Taurus the Bull. This event will appear as if fireworks are exploding around Venus. It will be a suitable ending for a lady's active winter schedule.

I thought this might be useful information if anybody wanted to offer a "kissing your Uranus special".

Thanks for such an informative post. Love all things celestial. Inherited it from a father who spent endless hours watching the stars and planets.

Great post!

In early April, according to Sky Walk on my iPad, all four visible plants will be in the evening sky that week, Mars, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. Google returned a Scope City. I'll let you know if I find something.
