I'm not sure if I'd call myself a newbie, but I don't have much of a profile; I've done this five times or so over the past fifteen years, and once every three years doesn't exactly build you a rep.

But here I am, wanting to see someone on Monday. I emailed three ladies and 100 Proof, couldn't pass 100 Proof's screening (I only have one reference), got one response from a lady but we haven't managed to set up a time (I replied, she never replied to that.) I'm wondering how many more ladies I have to email before I actually get one ...

I'm pretty picky and my short list is short; as I said, I only do this once every few years, and I have a distinct idea of who I want to do it with. But time is also running short. Do I hope for the lady I've selected to respond, and sit in my room with a few vodka shots if she never does? Do I dig in and email a few more people? Do I shake my fist in saddened rage at Zack? Why is this all so difficult?

It takes two to be comfortable. There's lots of ladies here with reviews but if you have nothing to offer in return , your pickings are slim.

April, you are indeed very lovely (although not my type) but I have no idea what you're saying. Is it that ladies generally don't want to see someone without a reputation? I understand the issues involved, of course, and, well, if it's a drink alone, it's a drink alone.

There are a number of wonderful ladies here in LV.  I would suggest expanding your list.  Do some research and make some new friends.

See my post below.  I started with ZERO prospects and was able to make some new friends but you have to take the initiative.

Don't sit back and wait.  There are plenty of quality ladies that are newbie friendly but you have to make your own luck.

Well I would say , not exactly . You have been around you know how things work  
Maybe as far as references you are like a newbie because 5 times in fifteen years ......
Yes doesn't leave you with tons of recent references .

The good news is , there are many ladies who can and are willing to screen you with out the need
for references ........myself included I am very newbie friendly . ( I know I am probably not your type , but I am reminding other newbies who may be reading this , that I am newbie friendly )  
 
The bad news is , as you state - "I'm pretty picky and my short list is short"
This of course limits your options.

Why is this all so difficult ? Maybe we can say that about you  
Why are you so difficult (picky)  

Why are you mad at Zack ? he has his reasons for requiring what he requires to pass his screening  
As each lady has her requirements that makes her comfortable with screening
You have been around long enough ( regardless how many times you have seen ladies )  
to understand that a ladies safety is number ONE priority.

So now what ? Well as Dr Phil always says -  
Do you want to be right or happy ?  
I say to picky gents - Do you want to be picky or happy ??

I mean come on so many wonderful beautiful ladies in Las Vegas .  
Hard to believe it isn't possible to expand your list.
If not , that is ok . I totally understand and respect your pickiness ........but then you have to deal with what comes along with being so picky ........A date with Rosey Palm and her five sisters.

How many emails does it take to get an answer ? Well depending on who you are emailing.
How far in advance did you email the ladies ?  
The closer you email a lady to the requested date , the less time there is to respond and to screen.
or maybe the lady is already booked  or she is busy ...... I mean we also have other stuff in our lives. We can't answer emails 24/7 .
and sometimes emails get lost in space or in spam ......

Anyways point is , when you email a lady WAAAAAAAAY in advance ( not days in advance )  you can sit and wait a few days
No answer , you resend . No answer you move on .
Now so close to the day you want to meet a lady ....... Monday , well now it can be a numbers game .......again depending who you are emailing .  
Some ladies are on top of their emails more then others.

Sorry this got a little longer then I wanted , but my answer is also for other gents who may be in your position and want to learn what to do ...... before it is too late *wink wink*

I was in much the same boat as you- as a true newbie to the hobby, I lacked even a frame of reference.  I perused these boards, did my research, set the criteria for what I wanted out of this experience, made my shortlist, finally reached a decision, and contacted a wonderful young lady.  I was respectful, honest, and thoughtful in my communication.   I made sure to give enough time so that I could be screened.  I was and it was a a painless process.  And now I eagerly anticipate scratching something off my bucketlist.

When I made my shortlist I chose ladies which could fulfill my own little fantasies. I then confirmed that was the case by researching reviews, google searches, and so forth.  Once I was sure they were what I wanted and actually who they said they were, I investigated their screening process.  I chose one I was comfortable with, initiated contact, and was honest and forthright.  Painless.

There are various date check and verification services out there.  I avoided them so I can't vouch for how useful they are- others may be able to comment.

All I can say, do your research.  TER is a wonderful resource.  Be honest and respectful.  It worked for me.  Good luck.

if you let us know what is your type of lady.You said you are picky and you have a short list but you never described what type of lady you are looking for.There are many ways to be verified without references but you will have to be willing to provide that info to whatever provider you select.
I would suggest sending another email to the provider you have already spoken with to see about setting a time.If you still do not get a response you will have to move on and try to find someone else Monday is not that much notice

My main issue is that I'm 36 and 5-5, I want someone who's younger than me, Caucasian and petite, and without getting into details many of the best girls around here (like LaRue!) are out of my price range. I started emailing on Thursday when I knew that I'd be available, but I sat and waited for responses, probably for too long.

Not everyone is entitled to get laid, and Las Vegas is a place where high-rollers and the house usually win. Worst case scenario, I've learned something about the world, and that's not actually a worst case scenario.

I wouldn't consider myself an avid hobbyist by any means.  I have seen maybe 2-3 ladies per year and I am very picky also.  But I do email well in advance of my visit to establish contact with the lady I would like to see.  To wait the week of your visit puts your needs and desires that you wanted fulfilled at stake if you haven't established a reputation.  I once emailed a provider a couple of weeks in advance that had caught my eye and her donation was what I was looking for.  One of the reason I reached out was because she was not known to be punctual from her reviews (that's another story).  Thought we had set a date, I emailed her the beginning of the week before my visit and there was NO RETURN EMAIL.  I waited until Wednesday and there was still no response.  So I had to email other providers in order to make sure I had a great time in Vegas.  I even emailed ones that maybe were not newbie friendly, but I made sure I was respectful and reserve when I emailed them.  One answered right away and I booked her.  Two others responded and said they would see me, I emailed them politely thanking them but I have the spot filled.  Well the date came and you know what, I had a great time!!  I've booked her another time and look forward to the next one.  I've never looked back on my choice.  As for that other provider I had thought I had booked, her future reviews reflected the way she had treated me, inconsistent.  She texted me months after my initial contact, flirting with me.  I took the high road and didn't text her back.

The lessons learned, do your homework and book in advance.  There is no harm in emailing providers and explaining your situation.  What's the worst they can say, No?  Don't take it personal if they do not email you back or politely decline.  You might be surprised with the responses you get if you email them in advance.  I will say your criteria does make it hard to find a provider at your price point, but it is not impossible with do diligence!
