unless you had a girl with you
just a friendly reminder , or in case you don't know
Lights off for Earth hour! 8:30pm- 9:30pm
I hope YOU too will participate , just turn off your lights for one hour
the Entire world is part of this, so cool !!!
It is fun to be on the strip when the lights go out! Last year, I was driving on the strip when the lights went out, and I remember a DJ on the radio, taking a bunch of calls from concerned people, ' what happened, it is so dark.." and the DJ didn't even know it was Earth Hour !! wow,
so, Here is the news!
I hope you enjoy the darkness !
What will YOU be doing during the darkness ! ![]()
Wonder if the lights on the Linq observation wheel will be off too ? except for the red blinky warning airplanes of course
HA, can you imagine, being in an airplane, if the pilot doesn't notify the passengers , as they pull up over Vegas the passengers look out the airplane window hoping to see Sin city lights, and instead they see complete darkness ! LOL too funny, the passengers would be like " OMG what happened to Vegas !" HA , but I am sure most pilots are aware
still, it would be funny, expecting the bright lights...
I want to be up top at MIX or Foundation room!
One at a time, watch each casino turn off their lights, and the Strip go into nearly complete darkness
ENJOY and Celebrate Earth Hour !

Im going to make sure that I'm at the strip!
That being said, my lights will also be off. I always turn them off when I leave home. Then again I live at a 24 hour security patrolled building, so.. There really is no need to leave them onl
So, not sure if the "entire world" is in on this since this is news to me being from San Diego (I watch the news daily and haven't heard tell, maybe if it's a slow news day tonight they will mention it there).
Also, I doubt safety lighting will be off (plane guides, traffic lights, etc) as that could cause anarchy.
I will personally be at a prime vantage point for a special birthday celebration (was HOPING a certain LV provider would FINALLY text on one of my trips, but alas, no)…
Hope everyone gets a choice view even if it's just from photos or TV!
and you aren't alone! many people have not heard of it.
Started by WWF , in Sidney Australia, check out more on World Wild Life site
Most people watching were very "meh" about the whole thing thinking the whole strip would be blacked out. It looked like Hooters, Treasure Island and the Winn chose not to participate which was disappointing. The best part was when the Mandalay Bay signs outside the patio of the Foundation Room turned out.
I am glad I experienced it and hope more people participate next time!

Only certain lighting goes dark, like the Marquees sign- not every light
A few hotels did Not participate - Treasure Island, Wynn Encore ( boo!)
The Luxor big space light went off!
hope no one in space got lost without the light there
and Hope you enjoyed your dinner with the lights on lol
I took a photo from the entrance of the mirage. I titled it, "looks like the Wynn didn't get the memo."
I guess they think when it's aired on the news that their name will be on the viewers mind since it's all that you could see. Boo on that!
Having been in the Utility business for over 20 years, I can tell you with complete confidence that shutting off major parts of the grid is counter effective.
When that power goes away like that, plants need to back down, resulting in higher emissions (more pollution generally) and it is a major headache for the guys and girls that operate the grid. When the power comes back on, it's even more of a problem, because the grid voltage dips and many workers in plants and transmission have to deal with it.
I have been there and it is a pucker factor of ten.
I have also been to grid system restoration drills and they are very intense. To a certain extend, that is what this is.
It's not safe for workers, it does not help the environment and it's damn dangerous for people that actually have to deal with the consequences of these events.
A stable grid is what works best for everyone. Shutting off the lights does nothing for the environment, it only creates more problems and more money from rate payers pockets. Take away that many megawatts from the grid which operates 24/7 and things will break.
It's just stupid.
Is there any cool, fun, exciting, etc idea left on the planet that comes without risk?
I'm being serious.. It seems like anything we want to do comes with risk.
That being said, if the Wynn or Ti had the thoughts of safety in mind then I would let it slide. I hate to assume, but we can probably unanimously agree that they did this because of the $ factor.
Still cool to watch the strip go dark!
