Gimme some tips on hotels

OK, I've stayed at the Bellagio and the Luxor and been quite happy with both.  I loved the Bellagio and found the Luxor to be OK, especially for the money.  For my next stay, I'm in town for over a week and so I'm looking to save some dough with one of these vacation package deals you see on the discount airfare/hotel/car sites.

But I'm unsure about some of these older names, even though they seem like famous standbyes.  Word I've gotten is that rooms in places like the Tropicanna, Stardust, Mirage, Sahara, Stratosphere, etc. are showing their age.

One good value looks like it might be the Rio.  For a week stay it does seem like the space of a suite would be nice and they advertise all suites.  What can you guys tell me about how other hotels stack up in cleanliness and quality vs the Luxor, and especially about the suites in the Rio?  And how big are the Rio's suites?

you can also look into the Station hotels.  i have been Palace station and Boulder Station.  both are great getaways and girl friendly

Of the hotels you've mentioned, I have experience with one.  The Stratosphere.  Some friends were in town and stayed there so I was able to check out the room.  Very clean, very modern, very comfortable.  I can recommend.  (No, I don't work there.)  Plus, no security at the elevators, so girls can get to your room with no trouble.

The only down side is the location.  Being at the north end of the strip, it is not the "in" place to hang out.  Of course, that's why you can get a good deal on room rates there.

Rio is a very nice place.  As clean, etc as Luxor, but off the strip.  The rooms/suites are all very big with very nice bathrooms.  Their seafood buffet is the best in LV,  But it's off the Strip.  If that doesn't bother you then it's a good place.  One thing, I didn't enjoy gambling at Rio as much as other places because the casino has the show on gondolas overhead and it's noisy and distracting.

You might want to check out Harrah's and the Flamingo.  Both are older, but have been remodeled recently.  Both are great locations, oposite Mirage.  I have stayed in all the places I mentioned here and they're all good.  I do like the Tower rooms at Luxor and will be there again the end of this month.

BTW, I have found that I do better on price if I book DIRECTLY with the hotel and the airline.  Places like Travelocity, Orbitz, etc. take the lowest Internet price and add a commission to it, so their prices are higher.  Also, book as far in advance as possible.  When I booked my Luxor room last month it was $59.  If I booked the same room now for the same dates, the cost is $89.  Big difference.

Have fun.

I visit Vegas monthly.  In fact, I'm going there tomorrow.  I usually stay at Luxor or Rio. When Rio sends me free or deeply discunted rooms I stay there, otherwise I stay at Luxor.
Rio is a great place with a good size room with a couch and a big glass table.  The food is great and last time I stayed there there was no security at the elevators.  That could have changed with the war. If you want to be near the pool and not have to walk through the casino with the annoying show overhead, stay in the Ipanema tower.
You've stayed at Luxor, so you know about that place.

I must agree with Fortitude & Charger, Rio is a great place to stay. The rooms are all oversized and the bathrooms are very nice (the shower in my room even had a hand-held spray, nice for playing with your companion, if you're showering together).

I can also recommend Mandalay Bay, though it's a little tougher to get discounts there since it's Mandalay Resort Group's (formerly known as Circus Circus Development) premier property. But since you've stayed at one of their other hotels (Luxor, Monte Carlo, or Excalibur) before, you might be on their "frequent guest list" and as such, qualify for an unpublished discount. The suites at Mandalay Bay are VERY nice. Brownhound, I once had the distinct pleasure (among many) of watching our mutual friend Sierra taking a shower in the large, glass-doored stall there. A very nice sight indeed! Plus their suites all have Jacuzzi tubs as well, though they're in the bathroom and not in the living area as they are at Luxor.

Hmmm, I wonder who you're going out there to visit, Brownhound? Have fun (and tell her to call me)!

Regards,
Speed Racer

Thanks for all the tips, all you guys!  It will help me save enough during to week to splurge on a nicer suite for a little playtime :)

I'd have mentioned it if I thought it was worthwhile to. I'm not that great a fan of the chain, but MDB has been professional girl central for quite some time now.

Fortitude,
As usual another great review. Heading off to Vegas tomorrow wondering if you had any good recommendations for a nice In-call woman....Always value your opinion...THANKS

I have stayed at the Tropicana.  We had the biggest suite in the hotel and it was awesome.  We will be staying there again,  for an older hotel it was great. It also has a great pool area and no security at the elevators.

Kandi...........see ya in Sept!!!

I checked into a jacuzzi suite late Sunday night two weeks ago and the a/c didn't work. Took an hour for the maintenance guy to come and fix it. Filled the jacuzzi to get the aches out of a four hour car ride and the jets didn't work. Then it took an hour and a half for the water to receed. To say nothing of the person in an adjoining room (next door? upstairs?) turing on THEIR jacuzzi. It came through the walls so loud I couldn't hear the TV.

April is a tough month, it's spring and it's a busy time here. That being said..

Before Marriott took over the Regent, you could get rooms for as little as $59/night, and we're talking close to 5* accomodations. It's nowhere near the Strip, but I find that part of the charm. As for the rest, keep in mind most properties are generally at least 3*, but I think if you're going to have company, you should shoot for at least 4*; the ladies appreciate it from a security and comfort issue.

Mirage Resorts (Mirage, TI, GN, Bellagio) rooms are smallish, but are well maintained. Steve Wynn was never big on anything more than the basics for his hotel rooms, but the way he saw it was that you come to Vegas to gamble, you don't spend much time in the room anyway. Mirage, IMO has the best coffee shop in Vegas. I'm also fond of GN, it's a great hotel with a great staff, and you might be able to get something cheap there as well.

You might want to try Caesars. Park Place stock is in the toilet and they are literally giving rooms away to anyone who has ever had rated ($25/hand, or $1 slots) play.

The other consideration in choosing a room might be where you're staying. For my dalliances, I choose between Hard Rock and Palms, and was complimented by a local provider on these choices in a recent e-mail. However, they generally don't do deals, the occupancy rates at both properties approach 100%, so it might not be the right fit for you.

Rio is ok, I wouldn't stay there, but if you can get a deal, go for it. Harrah's does a very good job overall on the hotel side, even though it's marketing targets people with one foot already in the grave.

The other places you've mentioned, excepting Mirage and Rio, are much older properties. Clear pass. Strat has a new tower, built 7-8 years ago, but the other tower was built in the '80s (remember Vegas World?). Also, I wouldn't do anything out on Boulder Highway-too far away, and my guess is that a lot of ladies don't want to be visiting clients in locals casinos.

Tuscany is brand new, it's in a favorable location (Flamingo/Paradise), and they look like they could use the business. Might be worth a look.

Hard Rock and Palms are my favorite. Both have email clubs and offer rooms at great rates when it is slow. $59 @ Palms, $69 @ HR. Just need to be flexible when you travel. Mandalay and Bellagio are great but staff all seem a bit stuffy. Rio is in tight with LV Metro as is MGM & Harrahs. Know several ladies that have been 86d from all three. Had someone make travel arraingements for my last trip and I got booked into the Sahara, what a dump! It was a busy week and cost and hour of pleasure to change hotels.

Yes I recomend and just stayed at both this year!! The Palms or Hard Rock!!
Both great and nice rooms and provider friendly!

Several posters favored the Rio and I have had a great experience there and get good comp offers.  If you are paying for the room though, it can be pricey at times.  For a price oriented travel, I have been able to get some good deals at the Stardust West Tower through Funjet Vacations.   The Stardust is generally girl provider friendly.

BH, The suite I had for the after party was on the 21st floor and was a killer room. Steam shower, sauna, j tub, wet bar, refrig, etc. It had a one of the best views of the strip I have ever seen. I paid 149.00 for it that night.

See if ya showed you could have seen it and Bebe nekkid in the J tub.....lol ;-)

Hi, BH. That's where I usually stay,at the Rio. 'cause I've got a Harrah's card, and they offer me 2 free nights a month.Other than that,I get a nice, clean spacious room. They provide a free shuttle going to Harrah's,on the center of the strip. They keep the place up,and it's pretty "modern".
