Uber (or Lyft) is generally cheaper, but can be a little bit of a pain in the ass to connect with on the strip. I was just there last week, most the big hotels have a designated area where you catch your Uber so check with the bellman... and expect your phone signal may be kind of crappy at the same time (at least around Planet Hollywood/Elara it was) Getting back to the strip is no different than a cab. I took a cab out to a golf course and Uber back to the strip one day and it was significantly cheaper to go the Uber route. Lyft also has a lot of promos going, look for pink business cards that will have codes for credits on the back of them.
In vegas i think taxi's work better if you are not in the Strip Street. I currently touring in Vegas and yesterday I set and UBER, the driver called me and advice me to look for that designated area to wait for him which was just a block away. It cost me just $7.17
I don't drive so Uber & Lyft has been amazing to me. They are cleaner then most taxis. They are cheaper than taxis, they are usually faster than taxis and on a busy night on the strip you don't have to wait in the taxi lines at the casinos. Also most of the drivers have bottled water & cell chargers for your use.
