Is Vegas slow?

I just got another promo from a 5 stars hotel/casino on the strip. It's $139/night on weekdays and $199 on weekends. You pay for 1 night and get 1 free night. The promo runs into Feb of '13. I am thinking about shorting their stocks so I like to know if anyone notices any changes in hotel/casino business on the strip.

Its just not as busy sometimes for a variety of reasons.

If there is a major convention in town, hotel prices will increase appropriately.

When I am able to choose what time I come to Vegas (as opposed to being told by by boss) the first thing I do is look at the convention calendar.

I have been in January a few times, but make sure i miss the days when the CES trade show takes place.
They often get 150,000 people turn up for that, and hotel prices are insane.

I have had a Bellagio lake view room for less than $150 a night. A week later that same room was $450.

When I was there this past May/June, it was very busy.
I was walking the strip at 12.15am one night, and the street was four deep with people.
Where the hell are so many people going at that time of the night/morning...lol.
I realize a lot of the good looking people are going to or from a club, but where are the people going who are pushing prams...lol.

I assume your promo is from Wynn or Venetian?

When it starts to cool off and the pools aren't as active, there are some good deals to be had. I got an offer from the Hotel for 2 nights, $180 + $50 resort fee for $230 total and a $100 resort credit. I'm sure this is a Mon and Tue on some week where there is absolutely nothing going on, but still, great deal. I'm sure there are equally great deals everywhere.
Big convention end of this month, first of next, sure not many good deals..
Supply and demand and attempts to normalize income fluctuations..
It is big benefit to be able to decide when you want to and can visit.

that are opened. If there isn't as many as usual then their business is off. Unfortunately, I am not in Vegas atm. Yup, it's Wynn that sent me the invite.

I'm always getting offers from Wynn/Encore, even if my visits have been far in between.  They usually arrive every quarter with offers ranging from 2-3 comped night (Sun-Thurs) with discounts for Fri-Sat and anywhere from $150-300 in freeplay.  I have an offer good through December which I would like use, but I can't make it to Vegas this year. :-(

Sure is tempting though because I know their business might be off a bit in Macau.

I'll be in town during one of those big conventions on the 21st. Wish I could find a promo so I can keep more per diem for the ladies.

May I ask which hotel this might be??? I usually stay at Cosmo but have been getting emails from bellagio recently.  Never seen a deal that good for either of those places.  Is there some other way to book rooms at a better price.  I usually just go on their website and book..Should I use a different method like a discount website like priceline?

That offer is higher then what I was seeing last year and higher then what I was seeing earlier this year.

As for Macau business... 33 casinos total for a couple of billion people.. I don't think you have too much to worry about even if China's economy tanks. Growth might be slowing down but at least they are not in debt up to their ears.

The weeks Between Thanksgiving and Christmas are always slow in Vegas. They do have the National Rodeo event - but in general the normal "fanny pack" tourist stays away.

smartervegas...is a site that has all the offers and codes for you to use. Also, I think there area  few sites out there when the Condo business is looking for weekly rental (these can be very good deals)

I do know from May and September trips that Vegas was really busy.
