The issue here is whether the United States becomes a full surveillance state.  Now, none of us would accept the government installing cameras on every street corner and be able to follow every step any of us take.  The fact is, though, they don't have to install those cameras since they have the power to get those pictures or trace your activities through financial transactions with subpoenas and other means.  While Sweden may 'trust' its government, in the US the proof that we cannot trust our own democratically "elected" government is reinforced every day.  This is not a pathological distrust, but an understanding of the power federal, state and local governments have to track every part of your lifestyle.  By becoming a cashless society, you will have given up every bit of your individual sovereignty without a single shot being fired.
