..is an awesome thrill.  I haven't been there since they added the X-Scream, but I hear it's also a blast. Additional incredible thrill rides are also available.. please contact your local indy for more details!
But I agree, the overall condition of the Stratospshere is not what it should be considering it's significance as an extraodinary landmark for Vegas.

Am returning for a quick trip to Vegas to visit some of the wonderful providers there. Was wondering if anyone could tell me how rooms at the Stratosphere were, and is security a problem?  I usually stay at the Luxor, but wanted to try someplace new.

Security not a problem  , no security checking for room keys.

Rooms - nothing to brag about but they are clean .

A bit of a step down from the Luxor ............ Unless you get to stay in the Stratosphere's high roller suites ...........yeah I know hard to believe they even have them ;-)

Have fun ,
xoxo CindySpice

When I stayed at the Stratosphere recently, there was no security checks at the elevators. I thought my romm was okay and nothing special but my room was an internet special rate of $29 a night -- basic room on a low floor.

From what I've heard they are pretty small and the place has steady gone down hill since it opned.

even the restaurant areas looked shabby to me.  But the view is spectacular and a must see, especially at dusk.

Also the rides are very cool, another must do.

Dear FSinIndy,

If you really are from Indy, you should know that the proper way to abbreviate "independent" (as in, "independent escort") is INDIE and not INDY. As almost anyone from here in Indianapolis knows, the word "Indy" is a resistered trademark of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation - unless one is using the term as shorthand for the "city of Indianapolis". Therefore, and independent escort working here in (or near) the Circle City can correctly be called and Indy indie (or an indie in Indy), but an unaffiliated escort elsewhere cannot correctly be called an Indy. The term "indie" is also used to denote some other independent entities; for example, an "indie film" production. The use of "indy" (with a lower case "I") is always incorrect, in any context.

Confused yet?

Regards,
Speed Racer

P.S., the above diatribe is just for fun; some have even dubbed me a "school marm" for having this particular pet peeve, but SOMEBODY has to be the watchdog of our language and attempt to educate the masses here on the Internet ;-)

If you normally stay at the Luxor then I think you will be very disappointed in the Stratosphere.  The rooms are about as nice as a Motel 6.  I made the mistake of staying there once - in my opinion it is the worst of all the major hotel / casinos on the strip.

Thanks for all the info. I think I will try someplace else. Probably Mirage or TI. Have not tried either of them yet. Thanks again.

"As good as Motel 6.", says it all.  One hand towel and a 1/2 inch bar of soap ain't ammenities. I hear Motel 6's now have data ports to cater to executives. They even have "Studio 6", more upscale takes on the typical basic room.

Isn't that like paying an extra $15 for golden nail decals when you are having tips put on in the backroom of a cockfight dive in North Bergen?

I have never been in the rooms of the Stratosphere but have been through the hotel on the way up to the top level for the view. The casino and common areas have a grimey feel. They should just total that place. They also neglected an A/C system on the glass encased lookout level. So pray that the elevator works to take your back down so you can flee.

My engineering mind son says it is braced into the ground with a tripod to support the weight and strange structure....that the key to securing a high building is the base. At night, it looks like a spaceship from afar. During the day, it's a mass of concrete ugly. It was one guy's larger than life dream of creating something that stood out and would attract tourists. Location is key and it isn't in the best neighborhood. If it was nestled beside the Bellagio, it might have a shot but the strip is already turning into a circus so you might have sky divers jumping into the water. Maybe Sam Walton's heirs could buy it and create the first only Walmart with a view. Then disgruntled employees can just jump. I've stayed at both and have had a provider up to the Stratosphere before.  It's kind of a 'you get what you pay for' kind of place; it's pretty cheap but the rooms are nothing to brag about.  At least as of last year the buffet was passingly OK but again nothing spectacular.  It's also at the very end of the strip so it's a bit of a walk or shuttle ride to get to most other places.

If you're trying to save some cash and want to stay in Vegas a long time maybe it would make sense to stay at the Stratosphere on the expensive days then switch to a bit of a nicer place during the week when the rates go down.  I'll give them props for one thing, they have a pretty decent pool area.  And the Big Shot is NOT TO BE MISSED even if you're not staying in the hotel!
