As long as your references are reputable ladies with web sites and e-mail addresses, it shouldn't matter where they live and work. I have used references from Seattle, for instance, to be screened by a girl in Birmingham! E-mail and phone service are just as fast and convenient however far apart the parties are. However, some girls want to know the references personally, but that can be as much of a problem within a city as it is within the whole world. In general, references don't need to be local.
