Ok I've been a spectator and competitor at marathons across the country--Chicago, LA, San Diego, Atlanta...along with cheering people on here in Vegas with much enthusiasm and a loud mouth.

HOWEVER.... I did not experience ANY of this over the weekend during my run.

:(

What is wrong with the camaraderie in this town?  Are people too consumed with their own well-being, gambling, sexual exploits...etc... rather than getting out in the fresh air and sharing good times along with benefiting a worthwhile foundation (Crohn's and Colitis.) ?

I've run the half the last 3 years and your observations are correct.

It's been running only 5 years so it needs some time to become a Vegas tradition.

Half the course is on the strip.  Locals dread the strip and the tourists in the hotels are sleeping after staying out late.

Vegas is notorious for not supporting local sports other than UNLV hoops in the 90's.  Consensus is that locals get their entertainment fix from the local casinos and therefore spend less time and money on non-gaming events.

Please come back next year, it's still a well run competition.

As a local, I totally agree with what you're saying, but a major injury (on crutches!) didn't keep me away from being a spectator in the past.

I think one of the best parts of the run was the characters on the north end of the Strip.  I think around mile 7 there was a band playing and on the run back down (heading south) there was a man holding a brown bag and doing the moonwalk on the sidewalk.

Not to mention my favorite outfit--Spongebob Elvis.  She kicked butt.

I hope you had fun!

Always a runner,
Lynette
