Hi RazorRamon, you are correct and incorrect. Certainly there will be many "Insider" parties that I have not found and the general public will not get into. Not everybody can get into all of these that I have found. I can say though, that last year I went to events at Utopia (lots of webgirls), Girls Of Internet (guessing a 50/50 split), Legends Of Erotica (lots more men than women but the public could bring their cameras and there was plenty of eye candy). This year,I would recommend the strip clubs events (the numbers of girls will be as advertised)and the nightclub events as good places to meet people. The Metamorphisis event at Hide n Seek also looks promising. If you can make the right connections that can take you other places. Just so everyone knows, I have no vested interest in any of this other than that I am going to a lot of them to have a good time! The purpose of all this is really just to give people a heads up on whats up.
I worked in the industry 20 years ago (no, not in front of the camera), and it looks like I may be returning to it in an executive capacity by the end of the year (vagueness intentional). I was an invitee to a private party in Vegas on New Year's Eve, the hosts were a husband and wife whose names are familiar to most everyone here. They're nice, gracious people and I thank them for their hospitality.
That being said, the AE community, particularly the talent, is necessarily insular. I'd prefer to respect that. For virtually all the better events, the average fan is not going to have access, as these events are held for the benefit of the people who actually work in the business and not look from the outside. Which is the way it really should be (I still consider myself an outsider, even though somehow I've been invited to 3-4 of these deals already). Way I see it, the talent deserves to have a little fun on their own. I may end up going to one, maybe two, but it's really no big deal for me. I go to network and try to meet those in my peer group, not to make dates for privates or gawk.
Besides production staff and performers, common guest pass invitees are the people to whom they hope to sell (or who have already purchased) tens of thousands of dollars worth of product per year, such as distributors or large chain retailers. As Number 6 mentioned, it's more networking and business than T&A show. Most of the wild parties you read about are really not much different than your company Christmas party, embellished in print to sell magazines. Yes, there are a few sex parties... but they are "closed sets" and conducted by the degenerates on the fringe end of the business.
I went to internext (the internet porn convention, 3 days before AVN) last year and lucked into someone handing me an invite for a party at the red rooster swing club. There were a number of performers there getting off on giant dildos mounted to power tools. Not quite like company christmas party I have been to.
I would agree that one is not going to walk into to a large porn star orgy or anything like that (unless one is already in the industry), and that these things are mostly about networking, but at least for internext, everyone is pretty into the nighttime party scene. Its worth the fee of the internext pass in my opinion. Las Vegas is sort of a T&A paradise 365 days a year, but during porn week it is pretty much out of control. Personally, I think the internext scene is alot more fun than the adult video scene, since just prior to CES, it is basically only webmasters and porno girls who are in town.
GSK is right, it's who you meet and how you work it. My list is just to let you know where you might look. Yes, BTW I'm in both industries and the webgirls are much wilder than the pornstars. Good luck everyone!

Internext does not equal Pornstars or AEE. Two different events, like comparing grapes and watermelons (no breast innuendo intended).
Preferring to agree than disagree, notarehersal has the right idea. An independent should be your primary plan. With many "tourists" in town during these large events, the talent books up quick even with the pool being widened by visiting providers. So... book early, book often, and stick with the locals.
Logan is a one woman party, but she may be in Hawaii the first week of January. (I'm wrong, she's back!)
