North Korean girls have a bit of a different look from South Korean girls. Part of it is that the beauty standards in North Korea are very different.
The gene pool for both countries is the same. But poverty, malnutrition, disease and genetic selection for the past 70 years or so has had a bit of an impact on making North Koreans look a little different from South Koreans.

but quite frankly she is an "attention whore" just like most people with blogs, on You Tube, Influencers and the like. I don't really hold it against her, but I wouldn't rely on her for "first hand unbiased" information about N Korea than I would rely on Paris Hilton or the Khardashians to tell me the truth about the US.

As far as looks, I prefer to not look at the person speaking because like you said, appearance influences judgement. Reading is usually my preferred medium.

I am not the one questioning many of her "stories" I only first heard of her when I read the OP. That said, there are a LOT of people questioning a lot of her claims, it only took me a few minutes of reading about her to see that.
A lot of people like her start off telling the truth, but then as they get traction and start attracting an audience they run out of "facts" and are forced to either make shit up, or embellish their stories in order to keep their audience who will constantly want more from her before getting bored and moving on to the next person they find interesting with a blog or podcast.

I'm not aware of how many NK-girls are in the K-girl universe, but just imagine that those who have escaped and work as K-girls might have gone through similar or worse experiences.
I know a few NK kgirls that have opened and can clear up many rumors from the stories I’ve compiled. Most match up to each other and one story I know is true. Many of the crap you hear on TV is untrue and usually some girl or guy being paid to lie.
