It was a bit amusing to read the original post after a having the subject of transgender come up when I was talking with a young girl up in CA a week or so back. Forget how we got to the topic but she was saying that in Japan the transgender people don't do the sex changes like in the states and no one thinks it's needed. Sh seemed to be suggesting more toleration for personal sexual orientation choices/genetics than in the USA. As she was explaining the lack of physical change to reflect the internal gender orientation she stopped for a minute and then told me "but I like boys, I'm not that way." which I had to laugh at.
