I could be off by a bit on dates. But I distinctly recall the following sequence of events.
A “fake news” campaign against top tier k-girls was started by a group of people among which one of our most well known kgirl trolls was prominent. They started posting reviews and forum comments about getting STDs from various Kgirl legends. I thought this started around 2015ish. But I just don’t remember well enough to be sure.
This inevitably impacted their business for several months before a significant percentage of mongers figured out the STD scare was a fraud. Possibly even more importantly, it left the girls feeling isolated and like outsiders in an area that most of them had previously thought of as home. Because I had become close with one of the most popular of these girls, I ended up hearing their side of what was going on from her and her friends.
More than a few of them had saved up enough already to be able to leave here and either retire or go elsewhere (in some cases back to Korea) and start up their own business. And over the next two years we lost most of what we still call the Bay Area Legends.
The pricing dispute or boycott in 2016 would have had significantly less impact, in my opinion, if it had not followed the aforementioned fraudulent STD scare. We effectively delivered a pretty severe one-two punch to these girls, their self esteem (pride) and their business. And, as I think most of us know quite well, Korean girls in or out of this business are not the type to let that kind of thing slide.
What we deal with now in the kgirl community is the impression that mongers in the Bay Area are cheap and only care about themselves. In other words, they (the kgirls) can’t come here and count on building a loyal customer base.
As many of the long time mongers are well aware, many of the top tier kgirls, and possibly the rest of them as well, care more about repeat customers (that loyal customer base) than they care about the price of a single session. It means they can settle in and stay in business longer at the same revenue level even as they get older. And that’s a big part of what attracts girls to one area over another.
Unfortunately, Bay Area monger history with kgirls has made it so many of them, especially those in what we call the top tier, no longer think of our area as a place they can settle in.
Still, this is just my interpretation based on direct feedback from some of these Bay Area Legends as well as my own experience during the time period in question. Any and all are free to come up with their own explanations and draw their own conclusions.
