verification paranoia????

I am interested in seeing a well reviewed provider (we have been communicating via e-mail for the last couple weeks), but am hesitant about giving my work info.  Since this would be my first time and I don't have any references, she has asked for work info to verify me.

I completely understand why she needs this information, but my question is this:  If she gets busted by LE down the line and they find my info, is that enough to implicate me?  Maybe I am being paranoid, but I wanted to see what the experienced hobbyists think.

near past. If the provider is one who has been reviewed by legit hobbyists, that takes care of your first headache--that the provider is legit.  If the provider gets busted by LE and she keeps all this stuff on a computer (unless you just about blow them up, you can pretty much always recover stuff from hard drives--deleting doesn't do squat), you could be at risk.  Question then is how interested is LE in chasing down the client list.  Unless you are a mobster, a high-profile politician or just someone the cops hate (a successful defense lawyer?) your risk might be low.  With a few notable exceptions (San Francisco) LE traditionally has focused on the providers.  That's my 2 cents and I'm sticking to it.

As mentioned by the other posters, LE can use that information.  Most of the time they'll ignore it unless you're any of the said personalities (mobster, successful defense lawyer, political target, etc.)

But that's enough for me to just move on.  I lead a nondescript life myself, but in the future -- who knows? -- maybe someone close to me runs for office or my business takes off big-time and I unknowingly make political enemies as a result.

That data that's collected about you is out of your control and you don't know how long it's going to be retained.  Yeah, chances are that nothing will happen, and it's a small probability.  But I consider it insurance to consider the small probability and account for it.  That's why I move on.
