Gift Cards are great but the last few I've registered on line they wanted a SS #.  I've always picked them up at Walmart or CVS or generic store but now the SS # is an issue.
Anyone recently purchase a Visa/MC or the like Debit / Gift Card where you didn't have to give a SS #?

There are merchant GCs (Target, Omaha Steaks, iTunes, ...) and there are the cash/debit/prepaid-credit cards. I don't think that merchant cards need a real SSN or a real address - they just want your CASH for their plastic (number).  The bank cards are more liquid and I think that's why many of them now require ID info to protect against tax evasion or money laundering or sending money to terrorists or stuff like that.  

Can you better explain what you want to do?  

If you want to buy TER VIP with a GC, a merchant card will suffice. If you want to pay for services, some will accept a merchant GC as long as they can monetize it quickly and without loss. If you want a prepaid Visa, I don't know which ones are still SSN free.

Search the Newbie and General boards for "gift card" or "anonymous gift card" and stuff like that for prior discussions.  Be sure to search "gift card scams", too!

Some have suggested that a retail (store bought for cash) PayPal GC is safe and anonymous and gets deposited directly into a PP account (so there is a paper trail on the redemption end). I think that Gift Rocket is also supposed to be safer than most.

Any of the Vanilla brand gift cards are completely anonymous.  

No information required at the register to purchase and none required to activate.

Merchant GCs (Target GC, Amazon GC, iTunes GC) turn your money into their money and you get the plastic card (or eCard) to buy stuff at their stores.  

Many prepaid Visa GCs or prepaid MC GCs issued by a financial institution (such as Green Dot Bank) do not require ID info to register but some do.  Fake info is sometimes sufficient.  Almost every prepaid Visa and MC seems to be limited to domestic (to the US) use only and can not be used for international transactions. If you find a prepaid card for international use it probably requires a real SSN and address.
