Fitting pipes under pressure might not appear like a difficult task; however, with different types and sizes of fittings and different methods of fitting pipes, pipe fitting can be complicated. Several different techniques may be employed in the fitting of a pipe; the technique greatly depends on the pipe size.

In Paris' "Pipe-Fitter" Apprenticeship Program you will learn distinctive techniques to master the "Pipe-Fitter" craftsmanship. While attending Paris' program, you must provide the pipe for our "hands on" training. During the initial phase of instruction, Paris will share the basics of clamping the nipple, sweating the pipe and wiggling the snake. In addition, Paris will demonstrate how to snap-on the cockhole cover, prior to inserting the male pipe into the Hotbox Rod Oven so we can insure proper screwing of the ballcock. In most instances, this will cause a slight discharge at the head and could escalate to what's commonly referred to as Hardness Leakage. If leakage is present, we must secure the leak with another common option involving "threading."Similar to slip-fit pipes and push-fit pipes, male threaded pipes are threaded on the outside, while the female orifice is threaded on the inside, allowing the male pipe to be slipped into the female orifice. Such options can provide a fairly long-lasting fit. Occasionally, we will be working with fitting larger pipes. In cases dealing with larger pipes, preparation of the female fitting, prior to placing in the Hotbox Rod Oven, is crucial...this is when your finger dexterity and oral skills will be important. Once the female fitting has been properly prepared, force will need to be applied until the pipe is pressed securely into the Hotbox Rod Oven.
