Snowbirds, how do you expect us to remember you?

I had a guy who was highly upset that I didn't remember him from last winter season after he contacted me and told me he was back for the winter.

I told him I needed to re-screen him because I didn't recall our encounter from 9 months to a year ago.

I don't get it!!! You don't want us to keep your information or black books. However you phone me and tell me you're "the guy from New England who saw me last season." This isn't good enough!

To clarify, I have met snowbirds from New England, Minnesota, New York, Europe and I can go on and on, so do you really expect me to remember you from "9 months to a year ago?"

Please don't misinterpret my not remembering you as your being insignificant and meaningless to me,,,, it simply means I don't keep a black book and cannot recall elongated rendeveaus.

I had no other choice but to put him through the screening ringer again.

How would you handle this?

if I said, "I'm the guy who can lick his own eyebrows"?

I can understand the issue. I also hobby infrequently thus I know I need to be screened often. I try to send previous e-mail conversations to help jog the memeory or mention a unique conversation subject that the lady would remember me. As a suggestion maybe incorporate a policy where you ask the client at the end of a vist if they would like to see you in the future, or would like to use you as a reference (if they were not too naughty) sign up for a verification service like Preferre411 (client gets 6 months free if invited by a provider), Date-check, and/or whitelisted here. At least then if you can't remember the service will have record of your recommendation.

I think you did it the right way.  His ego was probably bruised a bit because he remembered meeting you much more than you remember him.  It's something that happens to someone who doesn't frequent an area all the often.  Don't worry too much about it.

While it's never been an issue for me (I'm heavily tattoo'd), I can see where it's a bit of a bruised ego on his part. Simply saying that you can't *quite* remember would be good enough. And a quick screen never hurt anyone.

Hmmmm...maybe hobbiest should save an email or somehting from the previous rendezvouz as well as post a review...this way at least they have some reference point from which they can remind the provider as to who they are!

Of course I imagine if they are a member of TER and post every now and then, it would be easier to send a PM on the system which would of course make it easier for the provider to verify also...
