I posted this in legal but no one could replied. Maybe u all could help me with this...

Here is what happened.  A week ago my roommate went to do his yearly check in with the cops. Something he has 2 do since he was 22. He is almost 50now. Any how the cop first showed my roommate my record n mug shot from yrs ago n then told him to inform me 2 remove all pix of him(roommate ) from my fb. My roommate doesn't have access 2 my fb nor has fb. I'm in fl. Do the cops have this right 2 stalk me n tell me what I can post on fb? Or the right 2 share my personal information?

1. ) In your line of work, having a "roommate" who is being watched so closely by the police sounds highly problematic for a variety of reasons.

2.) Rights, either yours or theirs, has nothing to do with it. It's what they can get away with.

3.) I would do as they say and remove the pix

It has nothing 2 do with them.

Correct,  and FB as well as other social media are platforms open to the public thus LE can look at just as anyone else.

Not sure what your roommate did to be under that much scrutiny but underage sex perhaps. Capital murder but he was young. They are usually lifers to checking in with LE. Perhaps you need to do a search of his records yourself to see what he did. Having a son in the house would certainly be a priority. Look on the sexual offender registry for your address. He would obviously be listed if that's the case.

If you go for a job interview they can and will ask for your face book info. In some cases can or will ask for your passcode to see if things are hidden. Do they have a right? By law they can refuse you employment and even fire you over what you have posted anywhere on the internet. Government employees have been fired for a momentary lapse of poor judgement making some stupid political remarks or not so nice pictures.

I know his record. N it was bs. The courts screwed him n now he is paying 4 it. I am far from stupid n did my research on ppl who r around my kid. But I'm not a judgemental person either. But I have no clue if I have a case against the police department 4 releasing my old rap sheet without my permission n then tell me who I can post pictures of...

As for jobs it's none of there bizz. My fb is fully family oriented n only family r on my friends list..

First, you have no legal case against police.  Unless sealed by the courts your rap sheet is public record, and anyone can have access to it.

You haven't told us what convictions either of your records contain, but there may be a condition of his probation that he is prohibited from certain associations.  They may have been warning him that he was in legal jeopardy of a prohibited association being discovered.  You may think his record is BS, but the courts do not.

No one ordered you to do anything.  Sounds like someone was warning him or you, or both that publicly displaying your association puts one or both of you in legal jeopardy of some sort.  They cannot force you to take down pictures, they can use those pictures as evidence of a violation of probation.

You have no expectation of privacy from something posted on a public forum such as FB.  That's why it has all those legal warnings about who can or cannot see things.

They are not stalking you, they are observing the actions of two people with criminal records, at least one of whom is still under court supervision.

Sounds like your friends PO was trying to do him a solid, and if you leave his pictures up you may be putting up his pictures in an orange jump suit.  If your FB is only for family, do your friend a favor (or maybe yourself) e-mail them the pictures and get them out of the public record.

Neither on probation  or anything like that. Mine was from my early 20s when I was caught with 420 in the car n my x pinned on me. Hence he is an x now n my case was withhold judication.  My roommate also a close family friend was 22 n a 16 yr old girl said he did something 2 her bc he threw her out of his house when he caught her doing drugs. They never took a rape kit. His stupid lawyer told him 2 take a plea n get it over. Well 20+ yrs later he still has 2 check in with cops but not on prob or anything like that

Do you think posting this kind of personal information is good for business?

For fed gov't employees we fall under the Hatch Act guidelines for political support and activities but let me tell you enforcement of it is a whole other story...
