Anyone else get a distress msg from Tayler Lake?

It's just a variation of a "phishing scam" that's extremely common on Facebook.

People need to use an anti-virus (like AVG free), anti-spyware (like CounterSpy), clean after browsing sessions (with CCleaner), and run a Malware program (Malwarebytes) weekly or IMMEDIATELY if they think they have an infection.

Run Malwarebytes in safe mode.

No need to freak out. Deep cleansing breaths...LOL.

Very important...did you run avg and malwarebytes from safe mode?
Did you run the malwarebytes full scan or quick?
Many trojans can "hide" from these programs in a normal windows environment.

Run them both in safe mode, and use the full scan on malwarebytes.
If you show "clean" with both...you are in good shape. Without seeing the headers of the 'email' or other messages that were sent...there's a possibility they had your contact information on them....but did NOT come from your direct computer.

One more thing you can do if using XP. Do you know how to get to "system restore"? You want to turn it off....then restart the computer....then run your scans....then when you KNOW you are clean...turn system restore back on.
If a virus existed on your machine, there are also infected files in the system restore backups.

Any questions, PM me. If you don't have PM...post it here and I'll get you my email.

Deep cleansing breaths....

I was really concerned for a minute, then when I got the reply I knew it was a hoax:

Tayler, hope you get it fixed. Make sure your anti-virus is up to date and scan your computer and run malwarebytes as well!!

It sounded odd, "I came down to London, England...." so I assumed it was fake. Americans don't come down to London, we go over to London.

Good advice (remember hit F8 on startup to get to safe mode) and also turn off system restore (right click on My Computer and click properties). If it's XP  you might also want to run combofix (http://www.combofix.org/download.php)

If it clears all that I would not worry too much...make sure you change your gmail account password as well after you are done scanning.

This is something that has been going on for quite a while, where hackers get access to a gmail or hotmail account and send out the scam message to everyone in the address book. This is the second time that it has been sent to me- the first one was from a different provider who also used a hotmail address. That one was about a relative in Spain that had to be brought back to the States and she supposedly needed money for it. I sent Tayler a PM with the email posted in it so hopefully she will see that her gmail account has been compromised. Be careful if you have gmail or hotmail.

Didn't know exactly what to think. Seemed very odd and out of character. Just didn't make sense.

This doesn't look like a virus or malware but a hacked email account.

Check here and see how this scam works, and get an idea what to do.
