Yeah there was mention of how the cops found out:

"The investigation into the Turbivilles began in October 2007 after police arrested an alleged prostitute who was advertising for clients on cragislist, an online community and popular advertising Web site. The woman revealed to vice officers that she also had worked for an escort service that operated as “Vivian’s Friends,” with “Vivian” being an alter ego for Debbie Turbiville."
