Question for Providers:

I know providers have very different schedules and availability, but I'm curious if we all have the same slow and busy seasons.  I'm sure location has a lot to do with it, which is why I'm posting this here on the Florida board as opposed to the General Board.

When are you typically the busiest?  When do things slow down the most?  Have you found that this typically stays the same every year?

...Can you tell I have vacation planning on my mind? :)

Obviously, Florida (Miami, Naples, Orlando) is very seasonal and transient. We do not have many big corporations/businesses and the economy depends a lot on tourism. As such, it is busier from November or so until April or so. This all depends upon the weather up north. People come down earlier if the weather is bad there. Sometimes they will wait until after Christmas. Keep in mind though, that when there are more tourists, more providers will visit as well.  Summer time, right before school starts is typically slow as most are away on family summer vacations. Sometimes, things slow down a bit in April before taxes are due. December has always been good. Not sure if gents have more time (the ole' going shopping excuse) or more disposable income (withdrawals made for "shopping") or if everyone is just in the holiday spirit.

Most established providers should not be affected by these things and should learn to work around this. Touring to the Northeast is always beneficial once you establish a clientele as the economy in places like New York or DC is more stable. Keep in mind though that outside factors may also effect business such as Wall Street, wars, housing market, etc. This hobby relies typically on disposable income. When current events affect that, the purse strings are tightened. When times are good, let the good times roll...

Know your gentlemen. Keep your regulars. Manage your money. Just as in any business, there are good times and there are bad times. If this means adapting to different time, perhaps you can travel or change your marketing during those slower times. Nothing is guaranteed and never put off to tomorrow what you can do today. It may not be there tomorrow.

Hope this helps!

I have lived in places and was busy as shit when most complained of a drought, and the opposite has also happened when others were busy in certain areas and I did horrible. I know New Orleans and Florida (north at least) are dead slow in the summer for Indy business. Agencies do fantastic in Nola, but the rate is a fixed 300. You pretty much need another job always unless you want to work 4-5 days a week, every week in this business. I have not even had that opportunity since 2010.

I have found to run a "special" or even Senior Specials attract clientel when it is off season or when the business slows..
also new pics boost attention!
well hope all is well on the TER board...
Thanks for all the info from Every one!!!
Have a great month!!

... so to speak. Now that the kids are back in school and now that summer is behind us Florida is a great place to visit until about April of next year. Lots of snowbirds, visiting businessmen, conferences etc. Florida is a very family oriented state so Nov and Dec may be slow in most areas of the state with  the exception being South Florida, Orlando and possibly Jacksonville. Tampa will stay slow through January because of Gasparilla season. I've found that in general, no matter what locale, all markets from Thanksgiving through Martin Luther King holiday. I say MLK because most people are recovering and catching up from the holidays for the first two weeks in January. Hope this helps.

Good Luck -

ps. Tampa side note - there are lots of nice new hotels in the downtown area. Restaurants, bars etc are easily accessible so definitely give it a gander if you're planning on visiting the Tampa area.
