Ten Arrested In Prostitution Crackdown Posted: 11:40 pm EST November 7, 2009
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Law enforcement officers from seven Central Florida arrested ten people, at least two of whom are teenagers in a major crackdown on internet prostitution Saturday.
Officers from Marion, Orange, Osceola, Polk, and Sumter counties came together Saturday night.
Investigators say the suspects they arrested were using the website Craigslist and other sites to set up their operations. BE SAFE!!!!
Authorities say this bust isn’t just about prostitution, because many times authorities say the same suspects are also involved in violent crimes.
“In some cases individuals are being set up in hotel rooms, they're being robbed, or when they think they're simply going there to engage a prostitute in some activity,” said Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings.
Out of the ten people arrested, investigators say the youngest was a 15-year-old girl.
Investigators say two of the suspects kidnapped a woman’s baby and held it for ransom, forcing the mother to go into prostitution.
They’re facing kidnapping and false imprisonment charges.
