Without question, the West Shore area has the majority of the upscale hotels...Intercontinental, Marriott, Hyatt.  However, the link I provided is for the Suites with the Hilton Doubletree.  It's still within 5 minutes of the airport w/ a shuttle there. 5 minutes to International and West Shore Malls.

However, the two biggest reasons? Price and all suites. BIG SUITES, TOO!  Largest suites of any hotel in the area short of getting the 1000/day versions. I've stayed here for $99/nite to $139/nite....altho I know you ladies are much more adept at price shopping for these kind of things. But the rooms are the largest suites. Separate double door bedroom off from the living/dining area.

And...doesn't hurt that it's on the water. If you want REAL ambiance...drive an hour to the Don Cesar. Best beach in Florida...but you'll drop $260+ a nite for the small rooms.

Just my $.02

Visiting the Tampa area and wanted to ask about the best location to "set up shop" in the Tampa area.

Thanks a million for your help.

or a temporary one.  For temp, stay in the airport area, there are plenty of nice hotels within 5 minutes of it.  If you mean a permanent one, I would suggest same area, as it is convenient to the interstate hwy.
