it is posting on Facebook? (I can't answer, having never used Facebook.)

Interesting article about the pleasurable effects of self-disclosure:

Study: Facebook Sharing Comparable To Enjoyment From Sex, Food

The reward given by a person’s brain when a Facebook posting of theirs is viewed, liked and commented on has proven to be comparable in pleasure to the response from food and sex, according to a recent Harvard University study.

The research, which was published last month in an edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, found that social media outlets give way to an increased rate of “self-disclosure.” The increase in “self-disclosure” leads to a spike in the amount of dopamine produced based on the pleasure or anticipation of a reward as a result of a social-media post being viewed, according to the research.

The study, which hints at Facebook’s role in the study but never directly cites the social-media giant, discovered “that humans so willingly self-disclose because doing so represents an event with intrinsic value, in the same way as with primary rewards such as food and sex.”

Last year I posted something on Facebook for Mother's Day.  A song my dad will sing every single Mother's Day, something about remembering your father on mother's day.  WELL, my brother saw MY post and then HE posted it!  WELL, my WHOLE family.... Mom, 2 sisters, nieces, nephews.... ALL commenting and Liking and Sharing my BROTHER'S post!!!  NO ONE  Liked mine!   That is... Until I told my Mom.  Then SHE liked it!    LOL

Maybe you had to be there .... But we were just talking about it again last month on Mother's Day.

YES, I WANTED that post LIKED and COMMENTED on!!!  It was mine, mine, mine!  lol    And YES, it probably would have been as good as sex and food!   LOL    Well, not really.....

Hugs,   Tarah   xoxo

I would say TER is one of the few spots you can talk about this lifestyle and it's many pitfalls and rewards. Those who post on the general board tend to be avid posters and readers. Much time is spent doing this so pleasure and enjoyment of some type must be felt. There is much personal conversation going on there and the banter goes from friendly and fun to down right nasty. Why would someone post anything personal unless they do want their comment to get attention by readers but never thought of the pleasure aspects.

...although some take it to extremes.  there are those who feel they are somehow a better person if their photos and ads here (and elsewhere) are viewed more than anyone else's.  psh, ridiculous!  social media, including forums such as this one, are today's version of cliques and wanting to be the most popular kid on the playground.  nothing new there!
