I bought a little used Honda 250 cc Twin Star with 599 miles on it when I began. I also took the state riding courses, both beginning and advanced. I was lucky to live in a small rural community at the time from which I commuted to work. Thus, I could head out into the country away from traffic. Start small and work your way up. No need to start out with an expensive Harley. You'll be dropping your bike as you learn. Once you build your skills, I'd recommend taking the advanced riders course offered by Jerry Paladino in New Port Richey. He's fampus for his training dvd's titled Ride Like a Pro. Might buy one and get some tips before you start. I've been riding 30 years and have many happy memories of trips taken and events attended. Nothing like it.
I've always wanted to attend, but riding up alone I would never do. I rode to Sturgis is 2007, have done countless bike weeks and biketoberfests, Myrtle Beach and NH. If there was any fellow rider headed up I'd be happy to ride with them. And if you are going to Bikefest in Daytona, see you Saturday at the Iron Horse.
As if I wasn't already thinking...hard...about giving in to my mid-life crisis and getting a bike......all this has me leaning a lot more toward saying yes.

Rent a few different model bikes on the weekend. Try out which one fits you best and go from there. Or during the bike events at the track in Daytona they have every type of cycle you would want and the offer test rides..but I suggest you sign up early.
I've been riding once I was 5, I come from a motorcycle racing family so I believe it's just in my blood.
Good luck and if you ever want to ride together you know how to contact me.
I always welcome riders to join my group of friends.
