Hey folks...  So i'm new to this whole online thing.  Was curious about how one would go about requesting a companion....  How is it carried out, insofar as payment, etc???  Also-  how can I know who is legit and who isn't?  (just so that i'm not calling and becoming 'john' who has solicited something, and then i'm on the local news....).  Please advise...

And start reading and asking questions.  The folks who hang out there are much more forgiving than the inmates here in the general population.

Read the FAQ for Newbies like the moderator said, read your local board(s) ask questions, and remember; if something looks/sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Always error on the side of caution. Read provider websites. Most of them have contact rules that they strictly adhere to. Don't EVER mention specific services/rates on the phone.
