Scotch is the nectar of the gods, and there may be a wee bit in your friend's blood from time to time.  He, however, is a Scot or a Scots man.  Calling him Scotch is an insult to both.

based on what I've seen and read, that the Scotch are so crazy that they make the Irish almost seem sane.
