During the desert campaign in WWII, Gen Patton would visit various US outposts to make sure that his men were not disoriented in the featureless desert terrain.
During one such visit, Pattons aide approached a sergeant and asked if he expected trouble, from which direction would it come?
The man thought a minute and then pointed in the direction of Pattons headquarters.
Flabbergasted, the aide reprimanded the sergeant indicating that the Germans were 180 degrees from the direction the sergeant pointed.
The sergeant responded you didnt ask me in which direction were the Germans, you asked me from which direction I expected trouble.
Patton of course was in earshot and was laughing uncontrollably.
