My internist retired, and I had to pick a new primary care physician. I reviewed the list of physicians in the medical group, and selected a recent grad from medical school.

The doctor comes in, starts to go over my history and chart. She notices that it has been a while since I've had a prostate exam, and decides that I'm duet.

So I bend my knees and exhale, as she starts to massage my prostate to squeeze out some prostatic fluid onto a slide. Well, despite trying not recall previous sessions with providers, I start to get some wood.

She says "That is a normal reaction." Without thinking I say "Yes, I know."

And then I have to bite my lip before I say "but usually I have to ask for the provider to dress up like a doctor."
