ALEA's comment on the thread below (among other things) about women with high rates who are starving got me thinking. Usually women get into this business to make a certain amount of money to pay bills, or to further civilian pursuits. So when absolutely beautiful women who are EXPECTED to be expensive can't get what they ask for, for whom are they keeping up facades?
Fact1: Being beautiful on the outside doesn't make you Upscale/Elite/VIP/Exclusive.
There are no shortage of beautiful young girls. Look around you. They're everywhere. But what makes a lady worth above market rates? Anyone can put up an advert asking for 1k/hr, but what would make a man who can pay that rate (or the man who can't, save up for the experience) do so?
Fact2: Charging a higher rate doesn't make one a Courtesan.
There has to be an understanding of what success is in this industry. And I'm sure that will differ from woman to woman. For me, since a companion is the LAST thing I am in the course of a day (hence my 3am posting) I feel that my companion life is rather successful since I have no problems filling my available time with the type of appointments and gentlemen I prefer. For others, if they can't pay bills, or didn't meet a financial quota within a certain time frame they feel there is something wrong. And it very well may be. What they decide to do with that information makes them the type of companion they are.
I'm of the opinion that a woman's rates should be based on her current business, availability, and overall presentation. Some of us must crawl before we walk, and understand that we may never be able to command those rates because of these factors. Good looks and great pics will probably get them through the door, but it's your intangibles (the way you view yourself, him, the situation, and what you do with that information) that make you worth the coin.
The problem, for the most part, is that the decision to be an escort or companion is not one every lady just sits down and plans. Sometimes it's as quick as the rent needs to be paid, and up goes the BP ad. The way a lady approaches the industry is an extension of the many complexities that make us women. And just like in civilian relationships some of us tend to not embrace change and go through it with cheating lovers, breaking and and making up (wash, rinse and repeat), some women can be a companion for years, and never embrace the changes in herself, thus never changing her business model.
I think not being aware of key times for change keeps one stagnant, and not embracing the WHOLE of life makes a lady jaded and burned out. True success as a companion is being able to balance real life and be able to work in the manner that helps a lady keep a positive outlook on life and people.
