Ok so I am finally taking the plunge and joining a new board / community.  After years of loyal membership to another discussion community I have given up... Partly due to their technical issues, and partly because I am tired of the junk.

I have been around a while and many women friends in the biz tell me this is the place to be...

Is this just a general discussion board or is this mostly used for posting ads?

Thanks for the help!

Sean

spend some time exploring the site to understand its organization.  you will find general discussion, ad posting and reviews.  there is also a "locker room" area for hobbyist-only discussion but you will need to accumulate 10 approved reviews to gain access to that section.

as you would expect, some regional boards are very active, others not so much.  online chat is very active at times, with people from across the country, an on occasion from europe.  like most things, you will get out of it what you put into it.  enjoy!

Thanks... I am doing just that and I even managed to post my first review here.  I really like the review system where it gives you some standard options as well as space to write your own goodies.  Nice nice nice!

Can anyone give some TER Tips for a new guest?

lots of helpful info about TER even if you are already an experienced hobbyist

In recent weeks it's gotten a little more lively around here!

Welcome, fellow refugee. ;)

Thanks!  While the discussion boards are more limited I think I just might stay here for good.  I kinda like the moderated approach and I really like the review system.  TER seems full of features just a little more difficult to find them all.

My first three or four reviews were declined since they were both MY first review on the site and the reviewer's first review on the site. I understand wanting to prevent self-promotion/fake reviews, but geez. How's a girl supposed to get her foot in the door? And it's not like I was a total unknown to the rest of the review world at the time, either... *sigh* Even though it's water under the bridge for me, it remains one of my least favorite policies here.

Everyone having his/her posts moderated is a very new addition. Previously you just had to establish that you weren't a troll and you could post unmoderated. I miss being able to inflict my poor excuse for wit on everyone instantaneously. Now I have to wait like five to fifteen minutes! It's taking some getting used to.

But, you know, other than that? It's a pretty darn good discussion and review site. I love that it has a more national focus; when a site is primarily composed of members from one area, things can get a little... stifled.

I just logged in this morning only to find my first review declined... not sure why that is.  I put a bit of time and effort into writing the review only to find out it was not approved and Im not sure I fully understand why.  This is now cause for concern as I have seen a lot of girls I would like to post reviews for but dont want to waste the time if I will just be declined again.

Carrie,

It's so funny you should mention that...I have wondered to myself, "What's a fella got to do to get his foot in the door here?!"

It ain't easy, bein' easy--is it?

Sean, I can tell already that you're cool. Hell, brother, I live way the Hell out on the Edge of the Desert, and get to Dallas quite infrequently; so it's hard to see "reviewed" providers, though I've seen many locals, y'know.

Dammit, you're brand-new, and already ahead of me! It's hard to play the Outsider, and be as cool as I think I am...

Okay,
Bobbo

TER is very big in FL, check out that regional discussion as it is more lively... we can do that here... just remember, the moderation is only about keeping things 'nice' - nobody gets to slam anyone just to be mean.

The General Discussion is obviously national and has plenty of topics, very good insights from the guys and ladies. It does move fast there... as a thread can move down the page and on to the second rather quickly. You will notice, once a thread on any board goes to the 2nd page, very few reads after that.

The Dallas board is where you will find our stuff and our community of friends... which seems to be developing now. When I moved here last fall, I checked out aspd and thought it to be clunky and difficult.. so it's just a matter of getting used to things.

Carrie is right  (very wise lady and sexy as hell too ;) ) about  posts taking some time but I find it to be more like 1 to 3 minutes. First reviews can be iffy  - they really are trying to make sure everything is legit - and nothing is perfect but I find the reviews here more helpful.

When in doubt - ask - about anything... that's what we are here for.

good luck and safe hobbying...   Cheers!
