Can bait and switch occur...yes. However, there are certainly thing that you can and should be doing to prevent yourself from ever getting into this type of situation.
Read the newbie forum, ask questions there. Read through the posts, read through the self-help guide (near the life preserver at the top of every form page). And then do it all again until you understand how it works.
