I've read about OK Cupid on Reddit, because they have a subforum about it, but from what I've seen, it's a dating site.

That is indeed a tough one, Amber.  I know OKC has a setting for "seeking friends", but I don't know of anyplace else aside from the sites you've already mentioned.  Meetup might be the best suggestion, though.

And no worries on offending anyone with pronoun use.  It was a "the more you know" moment.  You're obviously trying to be helpful to her, and not bashing in any way. :)
