I guess a better question to ask would have been when does it start to get shitty? We get plenty of shitty weather here in Ohio, but I'm already a terrible driver so it's really about risk minimization.

But seriously, why would anyone want to be in the midwest, especially Chicago from now until April. I'm already depressed off my ass. No sun, constant rain, wind, bare trees.....and that's just the fall!!
But it depends. Temps aren't usually that bad. But the sun really doesn't start coming back till January. I'm a sun guy, so I would give it a 2.
If you were to go by averages and then realize ANYTHING CAN happen so this is not for sure. Usually it's crappy gloomy and rainy with occasional light snow or flurries from about now up until Christmas. Usually the light snows between now and Christmas melt as soon as they hit the street so driving is not too bad but the streets will be wet and may be icy. Often the first substantial snowfall of several inches that will fuck traffic to no end and stick to the ground and streets will start around Christmas. Many times the week between Christmas and New Years. Then its a sloppy shitty slushy mess until at least the end of February.
