Using someone else's handle to bypass screeningangry_smile

I've been recently informed that another idiot tried to bypass screening by saying I was his buddy.  He refused to give any other info in order to be screened. The problem is that I don't know the person.  This person could be LE or some dangerous MF.

Ladies - please feel free to PM me so I can pass along the info I have.

see a guy strictly because he says he is a friend of yours, without confirming this..... needs to call me for a quick study in screening 101!  That's as ignorant as seeing a guy who says he is rs2k and not verifying it.  C'mon now!

Someone passed themself off as me recently, then did a NCNS. I actually met the provider, not long afterward at a meet and greet, and luckily I am a registered RS2K member and proved it wasn't me.

there is only ONE Sojourner7!!!  Hope you're doing well pal and that the beer is always cold and available.

It's pretty easy to misappropriate someone's identity which is done legally (by law enforcement) and illegally by lots of people these days.

LE can clone or create an identity and history to go with it in a matter of minutes so the periodic "screening frenzy" needs to be attenuated with a serious reality check.  Someone who is not LE can do much of the same but it may take a little longer.

The best screening practice probably is to network and communicate -- and take the time to do so.  (And screening is a two-way process.  There are many providers who may not necessarily be safe or reliable.)  Taking the time to get to know people is part of any business and those who want to shortcut that process may wind up creating their own mess for which they have only themselves to blame.

As for using someone else's name, information, etc., it happens and I suspect it's happened once to me although it didn't get far as I'm a fairly known entity.  One sure clue is whether someone knows (or doesn't know) things that only the "right" person would know.

And, just as guys can think with the wrong head, so can women.  You really need to talk to and sound out people.

As for RS2K, what a disaster waiting to happen.  If LE was truly serious about doing something, that would and should be its first target.  Putting your identity in a disaster-prone database is suicidal.  I'm sure Cathy means well but what's she going to do under the duress or a subpoena or search warrant?

These discussions have been going on for years.  Time to get real.

You obviously don't know Cathy nearly as well as I do, or you never would have openly wondered about her character. She's as tough as nails, and very, very smart. I have also been around for many years(like you), and I am also a fairly well known entity(just like you). There is always someone out "there" who won't recognise you, or associate your voice to your handle. That is just the way it is.

I was simply making a point that some people even go beyond using a well known hobbyist for a reference. They will be brash enough, and dumb enough, to try to abscond with the identity itself. RS2K is what saved me. I have been around just as long as you, and know just as much as you hobby-wise, so my humble opinion is also based on experience.

PitchingWedge was being tongue-in-cheek with his statement. We are friends. You would probably know that if you associated more on this board. You frequent a board I left years ago, and probably didn't recognise the banter between 2 friends. You should come around here more often and "network". Sorry...you put it on a tee.  lol
Good to see you post in these regions TBH

PitchingWedge... I am doing fine and I hope you are too my friend. Hobby on Garth!  ;-)

Not a rap, man, on Cathy's character but just a reality check that if a subpoena and/or search warrant is executed, she has no viable choice but to comply.  Same for anyone else with records, paper or electronic.

LE in this area is sporadic but, when it comes, it usually wants to make a splash, grab a headline and embarass a lot of folks as a deterrent.  That's because it's really a low LE priority unless it's election time or someone complains.  Therein lies an area where many providers think with the wrong head.  Say some alderman's kid or grandkid is on the computer, comes across a provider's explicit web site and/or posts and then mom or grandma walks in.  Whaddathink is going to happen with the alderman gets pressure at home and then transfers it to the police?

With the lack of discretion some people have, it's amazing more don't get busted as a result of their own stupidity.

Nonetheless, as a general rule LE doesn't want to spend too much time on this unless they have a reason.  We ought to try hard not to give them one.

This IS an issue, and I'm thankful (hey, it IS almost Thanksgiving!) that you care enough to post about this.  Please, Ladies, be safe always and CHECK the verification you request!  (I do!)  Otherwise, really...what good is even a reference?

Take care and ALWAYS be safe!
XO
Wendy

Its through the actions of concerned hobbyists, looking out for the ladies in the city, that we all stay safe.  Thank you.

Really thank you for helping to keep us safe!

but we all know this type of stuff is going to keep happening until every lady screens... ALWAYS.

Whoever did this is probably still doing it... and probably is successful...
