I contacted a provider through pm here on TER. Through those messages I gave her my RS2K info for verification.  The next day she texted me, unfortunately my dumb ass left my phone at home and my wife intercepted the texts and now things are ugly.

I doubt the provider intentionally texted you to cause you trouble, sounds like she was just following through once you had been verified.

I'm a  little surprised to be honest, if my SO was to intercept something like that and the shit hit the fan at home, i don't think my first response would be me on TER posting about it.  I'd be deleting anything and everything and staying far away from anything to do with hobbying....just saying.

It's your responsibility to keep the evidence of your transgressions covered. Should she have asked if it was okay to text first? Probably. But it's up to you to passcode-lock your phone, turn off SMS previews, etc. By not covering your tracks, you've not only put yourself in a shitty predicament, but the provider as well. For all we know, your wife could end up going ham on the provider, and that sucks (I've only been exposed to a pissed off wife once, but it's something I'd rather not experience again).

My suggestion would be to order several bouquets of long stem roses and start groveling. Posting on TER doesn't seem like the best solution in terms of placating your wife right now.

If she texted you randomly, that would be one thing.  But since you were in the process of setting something up, this one's on you.  Keep track of your phone, dude.

This is the classic example of why, if you are going to play this game, you need to have a hobby phone that you keep in a secure place.

Several years ago I also received a text from a provider I had seen a few months prior while on business in a different city.

Unfortunately the text came in the middle of a Saturday afternoon while watching Football with the wife.

Had to do some quick thinking and verbal scrambling about wrong number, but the following Monday I purchased my Trac Phone. No problems of that sort since.

Also, if you are still using your personal email, get a Hobby Email for the same reasons.

I don't believe she did it intentionally either.

TER is not my first response.

I'm a big believer in coded text messages for confirmations even  if the fellow has indicated it is ok to call/text via a cell phone.  Most of my clients think it is cute and silly but they all appreciate my extra level of security each and every time I do it.   I can't tell you how many clients have said it is ok to text them and I find out later they forgot their phone, or their SO was very interested in their texts and they are relieved at my extra caution.   For example, I'll text something like "Please confirm your appointment with ComEd by either going online or calling our main number".   And then I or my assistant will email them that I sent the coded confirmation message.  That is an easily explained "wrong number" or an error with ComEd to the SO.  I have a half dozen of these I use just to be careful.   I do also agree that if you are a gentleman in this hobby, you need to be extra careful about knowing where your phone is and I'd stick with the old adage deny deny deny (as in wrong number).  Nobody on our end wants to intentionally cause a ruckus for the fellow.   It is most certainly bad for business so it was probably an innocent error on her part.    :)

requested we move the conversation to email or text and not stick with it via TER pm.

If someone PM's me here I move the conversation to phone, email or text asap as it's a pain to log in etc..
at that point you probably would have mentioned NO texting or calling please.

Hopefully, it is quickly forgotten about by the wife and just a quick lesson to start any future requests with I have a SO please do not call or text me.

Sorry this happened to both of you as I am sure provider feels awful as well.

Hit the nail on the head.

Get a Tracfone. Keep it secure. Don't store any info to it. Erase everything every time. Only use it when absolutely necessary and keep it turned off afterwards. Hell, I don't think I've recharged it in over a year!

I text w/my ATFs all the time... Sometimes they initiate or vise versa but it's your responsibility to make sure when it's appropriate times to text/call or communicate...., in ur original contact to the providers , you should of stated: do not text/call, only contact me via pm's, I'll get back in touch so until then please no communication of sort.. Etc the list goes on...... We don't know your situation, if ur single married, gay, str8, Bi.... Whatever......... But qWe're just responding to your request on a timely courteous manner....  But as you stated in ur post: your D-Ass left ur phone open for spouse to see.... Don't blame the provider for doing her JOB!!!!   GOOD LUCK!!!

If your wife ever finds this site (which could happen since she's suspicious,) she'll see this post and your 20 reviews you've made here and you'll be in the doghouse all over again.

Keep your profile low.
