Thoughts on blogs?

From the perspective of a client, what purpose should a blog serve? Would any of you read it?

Ladies, what are your thoughts on having a blog? Is it useful or just pretentious and a waste of time?

(And yes, this is Chloe-I claimed my reviews and profile).

Obviously, I am not a client, but I've always kept a log. I think some gents like to really get to know us before meeting, which a blog can help with. Your personality is just as important, if not more, to some gentlemen.

I recently tried to post asking if everyone would be interested in a "behind the scenes of companionship" short story kind of blog, but TER took it down both times.  I did get positive feedback on Twitter though.

Speaking of, if you aren't much into blogs, or like me, have trouble remembering to post regularly,  there is always Twitter. I think right now, Twitter is one of the best online options we have for attracting our guests.

I  agree with Jamie re: Twitter.  I've enjoyed the local community that has developed on there, and there doesn't need to be a ton of thought put into a tweet (our president knows that well).  Just try to make it real and not a bunch of retweets of your ads.

I write my blog for marketing as it helps generate business. If the men feel comfortable after reading what you’ve written, they feel more comfortable verifying. On the other hand, some men don’t like to read and you can’t change that.

I use mine to keep people up to date schedule. There they can it is new that day and I'm available. Unlike a calendar the guys can see it was updated with the date. In fact I need to go do that now! :)

A blog is a lot of hard work keeping it updated etc. I try keeping it up once a month. But I think it serves several purposes.

If you're into the analytics of it, a blog does help with your website's SEO. For me personally, that is a big bonus.

But the biggest bonus is the clients. Clients who go through my entire website, including my blog, are the most thoughtful ones I have found to be. Especially for older gents who are not into Twitter and review boards, I think a blog gives them a good insight into me.

Plus, much like Twitter, it is a forum that I can cultivate on my own terms but still a channel of communication between me and the hobby which includes both clientele and other providers.

It surprised me in the beginning that people actually read them. Not all do. But some are faithful to read through them all, because - let's face it - our lives are fascinating to the outside world, and in this world, a lot of people do enjoy reading in general.

They may want to get to know you, or they may simply read it to learn a little more about our little world. Personally, I've had a few come to dates, referring to pretty old blogs. At dinner, it's a great "ice breaker". To others, they're more interested in getting to know you in person first.

I definitely don't think it is a bad thing, but it can add interest, and is a great tool to get people more active reading your website, aside from the general rules, expectations, and guidelines.

Some have booked based on blogs, stating they related to one or two.

I thought you had left us to go over to "the dark side" lol Nice to see you back.

That and it gives me a chance to see what I could expect for a visit.

I think it's got potential, but you should recognize the potential conflict in goals of a blog (open book honesty vs marketing) and decide up front which way you want to go.

Complete honesty focus - what may make for the most interesting (and honest) read might not be something that potential clients and/or business partners want to read (or have put out there for others to read). So if you go this route, you might think about making it anonymous or not easily connected to yourself, so as to not have it potentially be counter productive or negativity affect your business.

Marketing focus - might be less interesting , but might be more well suited to engaging clients who read it. You can still be honest here, but to differing degrees depending on the topic.

And of course there's a variations between these two extremes that can be honest AND engaging to clients. Just something to consider.

I don't run a tell all/confessional type of blog. I write about my experiences in the kitchen and my favorite types of art. Admittedly, I haven't updated it in awhile, but potential and regular clients do enjoy reading it so they can learn more about me. And as Jasmine says, blog posts do improve your SEO

Hi everyone,

I appreciate the feedback and will take the input into consideration.

Cheers ladies and gentlemen,

Chloe
