TBD and TER are two web sites that cater to a single topic or industry.  CL and BP are electronic flea markets and because of this..... many "regular" people who might be looking for a used bicycle or car etc, would be driven to CL and in their searching, would stumble upon the "adult" content and were appalled by it.  Hence, the outpour of complaints and "pressure" on LE!

I am sure that the reason CL held out as long as they did had very little to do with the "constitution" or with the money that they made on the "adult" section.  I am sure the bean counters at CL figured out that their cost in legal fees, fending off LE, by using the "constitution" as a shield, were far outweighed by the revenue generated from the increase in market share from all the publicity from all this!  Those same bean counters have probably figured out that they have "maxed out" that benefit and have therefore removed the section.  Once again the almighty dollar prevails!

Look for BP to now start getting some of the heat that CL was absorbing and because BP is notorious for stealing ads from independents and agencies like ours and placing them on their site, to apparently give them some credibility, this pressure could eventually trickle over to us!

So, in retrospect, although CL bought a lot of pressure to the industry as a whole, it also served as a buffer.  That buffer is gone now but will probably move to BP.  Eventually I think BP will end up going through the same scenario that CL just did and.......life goes on!
