Even though I am in the Oak Brook area I know that Gibson's is wonderful! There are so many places you can choose from. It really depends on what you have a taste for... I mean food wise. wink wink.
Great bar scene. Young and hip. D.J. in lounge area. Food is awesome. Great people watching. Also, I hear that every Monday night is Lady's night were the raffle off a pair of Christian Louboutin's. That in itself tells you what kinda place it is and who it caters to.
Gibson's is a food factory with piano player in the bar where you'd rather stick a hot prod in your eye. All clientele are on respirators (average age is 78 years old). Trust me.
Pizano's pizza or Lou M's are the best pizza pies (same family... They're cousins).
Wiener Circle for a dog.
Portillo's for a beef... Make sure you get it with hot peppers.
La Scarola on Grand Ave for Italian.
Santorini in Greek Town for Greek food.
Joe Fish is a great fish house.
Bijon's for late night food.
Purple Pig
Go to the "Top Of The Cock" (John Hancock bar) for a martini...
Sorry, I can't be of much help, lol. I haven't been DT in over 10 years so I'm sure many of the restaurants I used to hit are out of business. But Gino's East has pretty good deep-dish pizza
That is a hard question in Chicago. It really is quite the food town. Start with the basics and hit Carmine's for Italian. It's a Rosebud restaurant but I think the best of the group. Best newcomer for me in the past year or so has been Beatrix.

I guess you didnt read the link..... many of the resatuarants on that list have been discussed in this forum in the past. This link is from a foodie.... you do know what a foodie is right? its still a nice list to have but then again you are the superior one for posting your opinion of good restaurants
Italian: Nico (it's won a bunch of awards, and is relatively new) Vietnamese: La Colonial Mexican: Mercadito Steak: Benny's Chophouse, Bavette's Modern American: Celeste (a personal favorite), Gilt
Other places of note: Ramen San (for Japanese, particularly ramen), Slurping Turtle, Paris Club, Hub 51, Sunda.
These are all in River North/Viagra Triangle area. If you're looking for recommendations outside of that area (a la the West Loop, which is a booming place for restaurants), here's a few:
All the meat: The Publican Spend a month's worth of savings: Next Latin Fare: La Sirena Clandestina Famous: Girl and The Goat Fantastic Burger: Au Cheval Sexy Seafood: Maude's Liquor Bar Fine American: Blackbird. Sepia
