Think was the key word in the last post... Built to take advantage of some of the newer features of Windows? What kind of BS is this guy spouting. IF you don't know computers, don't pretend, people will point out your ignorance.
I'm usually like new web designs, etc, but I think TER took a step backward on this. Why the bar on the left that makes me scroll LtoR ... and I use the standard 600x800 screen? Many other hassles ... I wish they'd bring the old site back. What do others think?
I like it. Misoneism is the common reaction.
Yes--I think that the muted colors should be welcomed by anyone who visits this site frequently. However, folks who repeatedly visit might nevertheless get a little tired of the prominent "Not registered? Join for free" message (and then changes to "Welcome . . . " after logging in) at the upper left corner of the screen, since this is the least important bit of information on the site but it gets the most prominent placement.
BTW, here's to Saul Bellow, who will be missed.
As a web developer I'm EXTREMELY disappointed with the new site. Not only is the design cliche, the photos on the pages border on creepy (i.e. the guy in the suit on the main page, what's up with that?!)
On a technical note, any pages that connect to a database for dynamic content (discussion boards, new reviews, review search, etc.) all run significantly slower than they did before. My guess is whatever scripting was written to display the content is not nearly as efficient as the "Classic" site.
For as long as TER had to build the new site, I'd have hoped that it would be a major improvement. What it ended up being was a facelift gone horribly wrong.
Just my two-cents.
It is definitely slower. It is definitely more corporate. And the stock graphics are blah. I hope they did not break the bank on this new design.
I think overall the functionality is better and the navigation is easier. If you are using older versions of Windows, then you are SOL. This was built to take advantage of some the newer features of the operating system. The corporate feel allows you to be in "mixed" company and not have to minimize the screen if playing in a hotel or other venue where privacy is at a premium. So upgrade your PC for sure and that includes broadband if you don't have it. Technology like pussy is an addiction that is best served warm. So get down to the PC store and join the rest of us. I really ani't that bad...

a step backwards.I especially hate the colors, they seen right out of the old soviet union. The old was faster and easier to use.Much easier to post and yet harder to read especially threads.
I agree, new site is quite cumbersome - just look at the competition. I really liked the numerical bar which remembered the pages when looking up reviews. This will not bring new members to TER.
Hey ChicagoBizman, I don't think 800x600 is the standard any longer. Almost everyone is at a much higher resolution which, would then eliminate the need to scroll left and right.
I'm running XP (three month new custom box) -- I agree with the Web developer's comments above. I actually use this less because of the scrolling and navigation ... which will lead to moving to the competition
I hate the scrolling. If there's a way to access the old format, let us know.
Don't like it. The should have spent more time improving the search feature. The colors and selection placements are bad.
I have to agree, the new site isnt the greatest. Its one of those things that eventually you get used to, only because there is nothing else, but you still can access the old site, I think the link is on the home page. Take a little more time and some redesigning of the site. Get rid of the pics of the guys, feels like LE. Replace them with pics of girls.
I'm surprised people are focusing on trivial issues -- its the navigation, wasted space, etc., that makes the new site a loser. Colors and photos suck too, but that's not the key issues.
I've got 23 years of IT experience. Simplicity, look and feel are what I seek. I use graphic artists, not tech heads to do the presentation portions of websites. I feel they should have spent more time improving search capabilities and could have left the presentation piece alone.
I tried to get back to the old site, and it didn't display? Maybe a slow 'puter I guess.
In any event, I'm not a tech-head, but in the effort to update, the new site looks and feels weirdly outdated.
I know some will say, he just doesn't like change. Well, this change is way too much. Too much changing the look and not enough changing other problem areas... like every review automatically naming the provider a porn star.
