All sites are at jeopardy once government is given cart-Blanche just like many other laws that have been passed to protect us. So many go unnoticed till it's to late. It takes so much more to repeal a law than get it voted in. If this didn't have so much money tagged to it we would not be getting all this hoopla and the damn bill would pass. Poof your favorite sites would be gone
They saying Congress is trying to pass new laws to go after servers and sites in Foreign Countries. Mostly about Piracy and Copyright stuff but same Laws once passed can be used against any Servers or sites.
The Department of Justice announced the indictment and arrests of four company executives in New Zealand on Friday as debate over online piracy reaches fever pitch in Washington where lawmakers are trying to craft tougher legislation.
and next will be all adult sites. In China the internet is controlled by the government and seems google had a fight on their hands with them. Google gave in so they could keep their investments in the country. Nothing is shown that the government doesn't approve. Also social networks have been blocked in some countries so news of atrocities can't get out during marshal law. I believe I read that this is a snip-it of some law being talked about in this country. Wow, imagine what that would do to the hobbiest and escort if the Feds come to padlock our doors. Flip of a switch and poof your gone.
The senate bill is referred to as PIPA (Protect IP Act) and the house bill is referred to as SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act). Both are written to go after Internet pirates, but are so broadly worded as to implicate legitimate businesses. If passed, they will mean more litigation and damage to the innovation economy and internet. The dangers of such legislation is succinctly stated in a public statement by the Consumer Electronics Association (see attached link). Everyone should be contacting their representatives and voicing their negative support for SOPA and PIPA.
Can these bills if passed be used against TER or sites like TER.. Some of these bills provided Federal Agencies to go after Offshore servers and sites who are being access in USA.

A day without Wiki was painful but the point was made and legislators heard. Even so, remember how slyly IL legislators pushed through the new laws impacting the hobby a couple of years ago. Movie studios have powerful lobbies so don't assume this is dead. I'd say it's more like a postponement of the inevitable.
