Just food for thought.

With such an effort put in place it seems fairly obvious that their efforts and tax payer monies were for the most part wasted. So it becomes essential to put a positive spin on it, hence the underage providers and their pimps.

For me, it reinforces the long held opinions of many hobbyist, to research and do your homework prior to making an appointment with anyone. Its well known that L.E. reads these boards but still there are those that will name a hotel, or give out information about other adult locations for the cops to see. Diligence in provider screening is essential. If you are going to take one for the team, know your plan B in case things go bad.

Nothing wrong with trolling the waters looking for hotties, just don't bite the bait hook yourself and get busted. Everyday is bust a prostitute day in most areas. We have to be smart enough to not become headlines in the local papers

Well, in addition to the press release from the Cook County Sheriff (see GD thread or just search), it looks like some West Suburban LE were very active. Most suburban papers have a list of about 20 people, and indicate they also got at least two underage providers.

Strangely, despite all the verbiage about the sting targeting johns, the people identified are almost all providers or pimps, with the appearance, based admittedly on sketchy info, that this was done though outcall appointments. Looks like they also placed some sting ads and did bust some johns using an incall sting, but the local info indicates that is a small percentage.

Busting the underage providers, and whoever was transporting them to the outcall, is a good thing, of course, no matter what you think of the value of the rest of it. So it is hard to criticize the effort and I expect that result means they will, and should, keep at it. I wonder if the percentages were the same nationally, as they are sort of surprising. I thought LE was more focused on johns these days, so a sting that nets maybe 5 pimps and providers for every john is a bit of a surprise. Can't make the End Demand folks too happy, but it is hard to feel bad about that.

Please tell me that you are kidding me.  When you fish for tuna you get a few dolphins, not the other way around.  If this was really targeting underage, then why did they contact so many ladies who are clearly not under 18!   What this is is slight of hand.  Go after everyone and satisfy everyone by stating:

A) its to protect trafficking victims,
B) its about "end demand" for their supporters
C) report large numbers so that the public will see how they are protecting them from these dangerous felons.

Lets forget that we are speaking of something consentual between adults in 99% of these situations.

I think you need a reality check.  This has little to do with the underage providers.  It's just a benefit of throwing in the net and seeing what you catch.

I guess I read his thread a little differently.  I understood it to say that, other than "rescuing" a couple of under age providers and their traffickers, that it was a complete waste of time and money.  I do completely agree with you.  If that is your goal, put something in place to accomplish it.  Remember LE is government, and the next time government actually executes a plan successfully will be the first.

Till you get to this statement...

Fair enough - I went too far. I just was surprised that this bust actually did net some underage providers, which is very unusual from what I read. And I cannot imagine they would not mention underage if they catch them, since that is the big PR prize.

And yes, I understand that stings always say they are targeting human trafficing and underage providers for PR reasons, but really they never do for entirely practical reasons. My point was that they busted some of the people we all agree they should be busting, which makes it much better than most. I suspect I am like most here in fearing ending up in a room with someone underage, so I would be very happy if LE made that impossible (yeah, I am dreaming).

And given the success, by their own measures, it will continue. But they never will really focus on the bad guys, because if they did the number of arrests would be unacceptably low for the cost and time required, so this is about as good as it gets.

Did anyone else note that this is being mentioned nationally as having been led by the Cook County Sheriff? Apparently it was their idea to do this and they spearheaded it becoming a national event. Our tax dollars at work, indeed.

I read that they pulled in over 400,000 bucks in fines so its not exactly a waste of money as far as government collecting these fines anyway!
I think they may say they are looking for underage and all that but it is obvious that they go whoever is easy pickings.
Face it...it looks good in their number games of what they accomplish to bring crime rates down and what they collect so they put it in black and white and it all looks good. jmo

OK, so it's been awhile since I posted on here but here is something for thought.

Not a waste of taxpayer money some of you may think?? Putting the pimps and underage aside, this is about what it cost to run a 10 day sting in 8 states:       $1,361,600.00  !!!!!!!!!!     And that is only for the officers themselves, and that doesn't include any federal officers (FBI), states attorneys or public defenders, or any misc fees like throw away phones, court fee's, hotel rooms, rented vehicles. towing fee's..etc...

And no that isn't an exact number, but that is a conservative number bassed on current salaries (estimated at a low) for 136 people that make up the officers, supervisors, department coordinators and tow drivers salaries. So that number is probably on the low side, remember the government loves to throw money away!!  Remember not long ago there was a rather famous case here in chicago, (not naming names here) but  illinois spent over 30 million dollars to get a 300,000.00 fine and 8 months jail time for the convicted person!!!
