Worst sports moves ever - Chicago edition

Sometimes a couple of things come together - in this case we have a few events. First, the NBA is clearly on a direct path to getting its ass handed to it in court by the players. Amazing how quickly you can go from a position of strength to looming disaster when you take steady aim and shoot your own foot; then you have the new regime at the Cubs, a group who appear poised to clean up a lifetime of messes and begin to patiently build a foundation for a winning team; and finally there is FT's post, outing himself as not just a supporter of the worst run organization in sports, but a proud hater who can only look southward in envy and anger to a club that has its ups and downs, but does have a clue of what it takes to win these days.

Unlike certain teams. So I though it would be amusing to list the worst moves made by a sports franchise, and there are some doozies. I was going to limit myself to one per franchise, but I cannot resist a few of these.

1. Adam Dunn. I like Kenny Williams, respect his approach, but I am beginning to wonder. By any measure, this is the worst free agent signing ever based on results. Having said that, his performance was inexplicably bad, but lord, it was awful! Combining that with hiring Robin Ventura as manager, a guy who a year ago was not even sure he wanted to work in baseball, I have to wonder if Kenny needs a break.

2. Jerry Angelo. What exactly is the job of a GM? Apparently for the Bears it is enough if you sign a good, high priced free agent every other year, and draft a good player or two every 10. Lovie has his issues, too, but his ability to get the most out of the thin talent Jerry gives him has saved Jerry's ass.

3. Larry Rothschild. Can someone explain to me why this guy is still working? Every pitching staff he oversees goes into the toilet.

4. Carlos Zambrano. Take one emotionally immature pitcher with great stuff, but who has struggled to be over .500 his entire career, add a top dollar, long term contract (you know, pay him like he knows how to win), combine him with an incompetent pitching coach (see above), make him the ace of your staff, and the question was not if this would turn out badly, but when and just how much of a train wreck it would be. Yes, I was saying this when they signed him, and yes, Hendry had to sign him to keep his fans happy, because that is what Hendry did. So I suppose this one goes beyond a train wreck to a true Greek tragedy (pun intended, because it was a real b-f, too).

I could go on, but let's see if anyone else wants to play. Get it off your chest, it is good to vent.

JA takes my number 1.  That dude is useless.  Since getting Cutler, the only offensive help he's drafted in the first 4 rounds have been Iglesias and Carimi.  I don't even need to get into the trash free agents he's signed...

Not that they deserve to be on this list, but the Bulls better find a way to get a good SG upgrade or I will be very disappointed.

We always see the bottom of the ninth.  Those poor fans in St. Louis are constantly jibbed not seeing three outs.
