HPV Risks

Quick question for the group—apologies for buzzkill. I’ve been reading about the rise in HPV-related throat cancer, especially in men in their 40s to 60s. Given our shared interests, where HPV can be more common, I’m curious: have you heard of any cases, known anyone affected, or had similar concerns?

Just trying to get a clearer picture of what’s out there.

I just read somewhere that if you are over the age of 40 and are sexually active 80% chance you are already infected with HPV and you have no signs are symptoms. I think like 1% of adults get throat cancer (I don't know the exact percent but it is very small) so I would say you are probably more likely to die in a car accident on the way to your hooker appointment than getting throat cancer,  and you very likely already have HPV, so carry on soldier.

Got it… well, HPV head and neck cancer is a risk if you are performing DATY. You can stick to protected activities, or accept a low but non-zero risk. If you are doing DATY on providers (I mean, I love it), definitely see a dentist once a year, they screen for oral lesions.

I know that no one *enjoys* licking plastic but you can always use a dental dam when going downtown. I usually have a couple on me and if a client wanted to use one I would not be offended.

You can get the vaccine if you want to pay for it or go to a clinic. It's possible that someone with the HPV virus doesn't have all of the  variants of the virus. Some are more virulent than others. The vaccine Could prevent getting one of the more aggressive strains of the virus.

I love to be prepared with options when meeting someone for the first time. Everyone is different. We all have different needs. I am here to help.

Providers in there 20 s are usually vaccinated for some hpv but not all strains. Also mouthwash before and after could give some protection. If u are under 45 u can get vaccinated . It is a real risk the famous actor Mike Douglas got throat cancer from oral sex
