Nothing upsets me more than risks to privacy.
Especially in our world.

I can't help but notice the number of sites for providers and hobbyists that simply email back your password in *plain text* when you click "I forgot my password." 8-{

The first time I saw that, I made a unique password for every site so that no 2 passwords were the same.

Some people call me a privacy freak or paranoid, but I call it meticulously discrete. Its understandable that they may not be able to take a more secure route from the start because every site starts somewhere. However, it wouldn't hurt to add a disclaimer informing the user that they should use a very private and secure email for that account because there are instances where their email may be sent in plain text. or that the password should not be the same as the password to the email account or other significant accounts.

you're not paranoid at all, on the contrary you're doing EXACTLY what all of us should be doing.

Gmail, yahoo, and hotmail accounts are constantly getting hacked because we're so lax in our privacy concerns. This entire country is lax about privacy, that's why we're the only country still using magnetic stripes on credit and debit cards. It'll be another year before this nightmare is over and by that time, virtually everyone will have had a credit or debit card stolen.

What's even worse is that most of these sites sending passwords in plain text don't require the password be changed at the next login. And most people don't bother changing passwords that were sent plain text and probably don't delete the email with the password so they don't forget it again. If that email account gets hacked, it's over baby. I've been spammed by hacked email accounts numerous times exposing not only hobby handles and email addresses but real names. The lack of discretion is unbelievable.

And when you become a certain age where you qualify for medicare, you will also discover that your Medicare card has your full social security number followed by the letter A.  And this full number is submitted and copied by all health care providers( I said health care Providers). When I called Medicare about this the wise ass employee said,  "it's not your SS number because it ends in an A".
