Hey everyone! I am seeking out what Chicago's best restaurants are from real live responses not another site. I would love to hear where the best places downtown are to eat including all venues and meal times. Any to die for skyline places? Best ma and pop places for breakfast? I heard Chicago has the best foodie list in the nation. Let me know where the great spots are please.

Thank you in advance you lovely locals

Hi!

I love the Chicago good scene and would argue the best restaurants are outside of the downtown area. There are so may places to choose from, but here are a few that I can say, with firsthand experience, are amazing!

Cocktails:
The Aviary in the West Loop for the most amazingly unique drinks you'll experience. You need to pre-pay for a reservation.
Three Dots & a Dash (ok, this one is in downtown River North). A newish tiki themed bar that's a lot of fun and has strong drinks!

Dinner:
Alinea in Lincoln Park. Same owner as the Aviary and you pre-pay. It's a 20 course / molecular gastronomy tasting menu that's very expensive ($300 a head). Has 3 Michelin stars.
Longman & Eagle in Logan Square. American themed and small plates. I highly recommend the bone marrow! This place has an amazing whiskey menu and a great brunch. Always a long wait, like 2+ hours. So put your number in and enjoy a glass of wine at Telegraph next door while you wait.

Brunch:
Au Cheval in the West Loop for an upscale diner, but not prentious, ambiance. If you go for dinner, they've got one of the best burgers in the city!
The Bongo Room in Wicker Park. Another place with a long wait, but you'll leave feeling so happy! Great French toast!

Just to give you a taste of what you're getting yourself into, here's a clip from Conan's live show in Chicago, featuring Jack McBrayer (aka Kenneth from 30 Rock) taking a visit to this ever so famous Chicago institution.

Enjoy!

This place is big and dark and smells like regret, but the drinks are strong and the food… ribs, gumbo, jambalaya… mmmm...and best of all LIVE BLUES. If Buddy's were sex it would be an urgent sweaty musky lifting of the dress on a hot bayou night

They have the juicest cheeseburgers I have ever laid my lips on. I could say the best beef I've ever had in Chicago, but then again I'd have to say the 2nd best Beef, behind the men of Chicago!

See you after the thaw,

Gabby xo

Lots of great food in Chicago.

Some favorites in or near the loop:
Quartinos - Italian, small plates, (River North) - another small plates place was already mentioned and is also good - Purple Pig
Wishbone - Southern, great breakfast/brunch (West of the loop)
Slurping Turtle - Noodle bowls (River North)
Russian Tea Time - a bit pricey, but great food (Loop, near Art Institute)
Hot Wok Cool Sushi - assortment of Asian cuisines (Michigan Ave in the loop)
Emils - Spanish tapas (River North -Ohio Ave) - There's also an Armenian place on Ohio, don't recall the name that was good but inexpensive.
Catch 35 - pricey but good seafood (north Wacker Dr in Loop)
Murphy's Pub - basic, reasonably priced Irish-American food (loop)

Enjoy.

I believe the place was called Gaylord's? (correct me if I'm wrong, locals)

My lazy ass got that shit delivered like three times. Their garlic naan was to die for.

Those are great choices.  Too many places to list for great food, and it's too broad of a question so I'll just recommend the better view-

Try Terzo Piano at the Art Institute.  I can't comment on the food as I've only had drinks (but the food looks great), and you'll have to check to see what tables are available in the winter, but I can tell you in the summer the views are some of the best in the city.  You are in the middle of Millenium Park with the skyline backdrop, and you get free admission to one of the world's best art museums after dinner.

And congrats on your cast iron stomach, lol. I did lunch at Gaylord's once and thought I was gonna die. The Indian guy I was with was laughing his ass off as I sampled all the wrong foods.
