"What Bloomberg Markets found is astounding. Reporter Cam Simpson writes that Victoria's Secret struck a deal in 2007 to buy cotton, "fair trade" and organic, from Burkina Faso that would benefit the lives of the female farmers. The products made from this cotton, rolled out in 2009, were labeled, "Good for women. Good for the children who depend on them" and designated as "pesticide-free, 100 percent rain-fed cotton."

But while the cotton crop somehow managed to be certified fair trade by Fairtrade International, it most certainly was not helping women and children. Bloomberg Markets writes about one 13-year-old girl in particular who has been physically abused, denied food and forced to toil under the direction of a farmer to produce the cotton, which is sent to Sri Lankan and Indian factories to be transformed into Victoria's Secret products."

Given that it's the holiday season, I'm sure a lot of ladies will be getting presents from their gentleman friends. There's a ton of other better quality and more responsible lingerie companies to support. Let us do what we can to vote with our dollar!

I've never been a big fan of their lingerie, but do find their dress selection to be wonderful for entertaining :) I will have to pass on all the skimpy dresses on my wishlist with them until they can find a more humane way to produce their products.

Thanks so much for the post!

Kisses,

V.

I wear Wal-Mart lingerie anyways.

Kidding, there's nothing wrong with Frederick's of Hollywood or La Perla is there???

90% of the products made in China/Vietnam are using child labor.

Do you remember the days when Walmart use to advertise 'American Made'? You don't see that anymore. Try to find products 'Made in America' in Walmart, good luck.

VS doesn't go below 34 in nearly all of the bras. If you're super petite around the ribcage like me at a 30 or 32, higher end IS the only way to go. It took me years growing up to figure out why 34's left me wiggling around the bras like an itchy jock strap! :-) A lover in my mid 20's introduced me to La Perla, and I haven't looked back since. (Though my current passion is English lingerie-more pinup, more edgy styles, in general far more fun that most Italian styles.)

There's a store in Naperville called Lovers' Lane. Nayone know anything about the quality of their peoducts?

Lover's Lane is a chain. It's pretty much the same as you would find in any suburbanite chain adult toy store. Middle of the road sex toys, and mostly cheaper end lingerie. Skip their lubes-a lot of their water based lubes contain glycerin (really not good for women) and other less than pleasant ingredients. I don't recall them carrying much in the way of silicone lubes when I popped into the one located in Chicago proper....

They do, however, carry Karma Sutra products, as well as another brand I can't recall the name of that make pretty decent stain-free massage oils. :-)

The qualityof LL's product in my opinion , one word.CHEAP with a big price tag.
I have shopped there for shoes in both the NW suburbs and Naperville, I have
not become impressed with the quality if the fabric they use to make lingerie.
Seems like cheapo stripper stuff.
